Merritt Academy is seeking highly motivated, professional Art Teacher to work with is responsible for the routine conduct of assigned art classes. In addition to art instruction, lessons will include appropriate elements of the values curriculum. The Art Teacher will be responsible for managing the classroom and appropriate use of bulletin boards, visual aides, and technology in the classroom. The Art Teacher will maintain positive communication with students, parents, and staff. This position also maintains the school’s art supplies, both standard and special request items. The Art Teacher is responsible for performing all professional tasks in a manner that exemplifies school standards of courtesy and values.
Prepare weekly lesson plans in accordance with age appropriate guidelines established by the administration
Prepare and teach lessons on art and art history, and values curriculum
Instruct students on safety and proper handling of art tools and supplies
Assist students with creating art projects
Maintain accurate and complete student evaluations, including grades, portfolio, anecdotal reports, etc.
Evaluate all children’s artistic awareness and development on an on-going basis
Maintain control of classroom using current effective management techniques
Maintain positive parent communication, including through email and individual discussions as needed
Coordinate academic and/or behavioral goals with other teachers, administrators, and parents
Maintain art supply closet
Order bulk supplies as needed and in accordance with budget parameters
Fill art supply requests for entire teaching faculty (Kindergarten through Grade 8)
Complete any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
To succeed in this position you will need the following:
A love for children
Bachelor’s degree required in Art Education or related field
Experience working in education
Knowledge of Art History
Read, write, and communicate effectively in English
Effective classroom-management techniques
Effective leadership and team building skills
High-level of verbal and written communication skills
Pass pre-employment screenings
