ABOUT ALABAMA INSTITUTE FOR DEAF AND BLIND (AIDB)
Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is the world’s most comprehensive education, rehabilitation, and service program serving individuals of all ages who are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, multidisabled, and their families. Founded in 1858, AIDB serves more than 30,000 infants, toddlers, children, adults, and senior citizens with hearing and vision loss throughout Alabama each year.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Must be able to obtain or hold a valid Alabama Substitute License or hold a valid Alabama Teaching Certificate.
Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
Must have a sign language proficiency level of Survival Plus according the AIDB evaluation system upon hire.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Must be physically able to perform the job.
Must follow all AIDB policies and procedures and state and federal laws.
Must remain awake and alert at all times.
Must be able to adhere to confidentiality requirements.
Must be able to handle emergency situations in a calm manner.
Must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Performs duties in the absence of full-time AIDB staff as required for the position including, but not limited to the following:
Assumes the responsibility for instructing classes when a teacher is absent.
Assumes other responsibilities for that teacher during the time the teacher is absent.
Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and other activities.
Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB.
