Summary:

An Asphalt Distributor Trainee will receive on the job training to learn how to drive and maintain the Asphalt Distributor with the guidance of other drivers and superintendents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Drive and operate distributor truck to spray tack or primer on road surfaces while insuring uniform distribution of material,


• Connects hose from storage tank to truck tank and moves lever to fill pressure tank with asphalt liquid,


• Regulate burner to heat liquid and start auxiliary pump,


• Turn valve to regulate flow of material at specified rate and adjust levers to adjust height of spray bar from road surface,


• Snap or screw on spray bars to attain required width of spray,


• Monitor flow gages, tachometer and temperature gauge to insure uniform distribution,


• May oil, grease, service and make normal operating adjustment to equipment,


• Responsible for daily maintenance of equipment to remain in proper and safe working order,


• May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,


• Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent,


• Must possess Commercial drivers’ license (CDL) B,


• Tanker endorsement required,

• Applicants must be able to operate Manual Transmission vehicles, 

• Must have an acceptable driving record,


• Less than one (1) year of construction experience,

• Must be 18 years of age or older,

• Must be a DC resident,


• Must communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees,


• Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working Conditions:

• This job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs., bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist,


• Must have the ability to be on your feet regularly and use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job for long periods of time,


• This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces,


• This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts),


• This job requires the ability to perform essential tasks in less than favorable job conditions,


• Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time,


• Exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.

*Note: This position is considered Safety-Sensitive, and therefore subject to various schedule and unscheduled screenings for controlled substances.
