Asphalt Milling Superintendent

We work on projects ranging from minor asphalt repairs to large commercial construction projects. Byrne & Jones is seeking an experienced Asphalt Milling Superintendent on our Paving team in the Greater Kansas City area.  This position will oversee the day-to-day operations of the milling crew and machines. The superintendent will run multiple jobs and crews in various locations and stages of construction. They will work closely with all members of the project team and supervise all craft employees, and will be responsible for the following:

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee, manage, and mentor foremen on the jobsite


• Coordinate job site logistics and maintain relationships with other trades


• Manage the procurement and tracking of all materials.  


• Coordinate work scopes, scheduling, and resource-loading.


• Interpret details of the plans and specifications. 

• Safely and effectively operate asphalt milling machines to remove the top layers of asphalt or concrete surfaces, adjusting machine settings as needed for different types of projects.


• Ensure surfaces are adequately prepared for new asphalt or other surface treatments by maintaining consistent milling depth and quality.


• Regularly inspect and maintain milling machines to ensure they are in good working order, checking for wear and tear, and ensuring proper fluid levels, blade conditions, and machine functionality.


• Follow all safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.


• Work closely with project managers, foremen, and other crew members to ensure work is completed on time and according to specifications.


• Monitor the quality of the milled surface, ensuring it meets the proper depth and smoothness requirements for the next phase of construction or paving.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.


• Previous experience operating asphalt milling machines or heavy equipment


• 3+ years of Construction Superintendent experience


• Valid Driver’s License required.

• Ability to work in physically demanding and varying weather conditions.

• Ability to lift to 50 lbs.

Skills:

• Proficient in operating and maintaining milling machines.


• Strong attention to detail and ability to monitor milling quality.


• Good communication skills to work effectively with the foreman and crew.


• Knowledge of construction site safety practices.
