Assembly Supervisor

Purpose of the Position

The Assembly Supervisor provides leadership, guidance, supervision for the safe and efficient functioning of the assembly unit assigned. This individual will work closely with management to ensure quality products are safely and efficiently produced on schedule. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

• Create an inclusive and safe working environment
• Hire and ensure that employees are properly trained
• Set goals and design activities to ensure employee job satisfaction, quality, and productivity
• Ensure all finished goods are inspected and participate in the inspection process on a daily basis
• Create work assignments and help assemblers succeed at those assignments
• Manages the production plan delivered by planning
• Ensures production goals are met.
• Develops and maintains methods and procedures to optimize manufacturing efficiencies and quality while reducing operating costs.
• Assists in performing physical inventories in accordance with Company procedures.
• Continue to grow the team as needed by the business, facilitate change, align the team to company values
• Fosters continuous improvement and continuous improvement culture
• Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.
• Notify the production manager, assembly technician, or manufacturing engineer when technical issues arise outside of their areas of expertise

In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for:

• Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
• Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

The Company retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Physical Activities: Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times. The employee may lift or move objects up to 20 pounds. Employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, may be noisy at times. Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as but not limited to masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments. The required PPE and training allow for the safe handling and processing of chemicals like adhesives, lubricants and solvents, and safe operation of job-related equipment and tools.

Qualifications

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar and progressive position with supervisory experience preferred.

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent work experience

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

• Strong sense of ownership and work ethic, written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient computer skills
• Strong ability to work well in a group atmosphere and comply with high quality standards.
• Strong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing production priorities.
• Ability to lead and train a diverse group
• Good interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently

Pay Range for This Position is $60,595 - $75,745 d.o.e.
