Job Description - Assessment Coordinator/ IEP Chair

Description

SUMMARY: With supervision, focuses 40% of time on leading Education and Therapy staff in IEP development, implementation, reporting, and compliance; the remaining 60% will be spent coordinating, planning, and implementing grade 3 - 12 statewide assessments. 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Essential Functions:

  1. Coordinates statewide testing requirements and the scheduling of assessments.
  2. Provides professional development in the area of statewide assessments.
  3. Maintains statewide assessment data.
  4. Coordinates college preparatory assessments for applicable      students (SAT, ACT, etc.)
  5. Coordinates assessments for Multi Lingual Learners 
  6. Chairs IEP Meetings and completes the Prior Written Notice for each meeting.
  7. Maintains IEP compliance and professional development resources.
  8. Ensures all IEP related documentation is complete according to MSDE regulatory requirements and timelines.

9. Collaborates with the Services & Information Coordinator to develop and update the IEP meeting schedule for the school year.

10. Collaborates with the Services & Information Coordinator to monitor the Maryland Online IEP System for updates and professional development needs.

11. Collaborates with the Principals and Assistant Principals for quality and compliance control of IEP process and paperwork.

12. Develops and conducts professional development for IEP process and paperwork and IEP Case Management

13. Conducts internal compliance audits and record reviews based on MSDE policies, procedures and applicable regulations.

14. Works collaboratively with administrative staff and related services supervisors to develop IEP process tools and paperwork.

15. Works collaboratively with administrative staff and related services supervisors to prepare for MSDE monitoring reviews

16. Works collaboratively with the Director of Education in the mediation process.

Marginal Functions:

1. Performs other duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS:

Equipment Used: A variety of classroom materials, including adaptive equipment, such as feeding and positioning, augmentative communication systems, audio-visual equipment, personal computer and Braillers.

Performance Standard: Provides consistent leadership and guidance in the planning and implementation of the school’s assessment practices. 

Work Environment: Multiple indoor environments around campus with a variety of sound, lighting and temperature conditions.

Work Schedule: 37 1/2 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with an unpaid meal break. This position follows the standard 11-month school schedule. Additional hours and flexible weekly scheduling will be required.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS :

Knowledge, skills and general abilities: 

1. Comprehensive knowledge of special education laws and regulations

2. Comprehensive knowledge of instructional strategies for students receiving specially designed instruction through an IEP for students who are blind or low vision, including those with multiple disabilities, including assessment and evaluation, learning environments and unique curriculum.

3. General knowledge of principles and practices in the areas of program evaluation and the assessment of student data.

4. Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a concentration in special education or comparable area. Special Education Certification required. Vision Certification is preferred. Master’s Degree preferred.

5. Three years of successful special education classroom instruction experience is required.
