Job Description - Assistant Athletic Director/ Middle School PE


Ministerial Character
Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin are canonically obedient to the Bishop and assist him in fulfilling his ministry and canonical obligations.  Pastors and school administrators serve as leaders of the schools to make Christ's mission present and enduring in the schools.  In order to fulfill Christ's mission, the school leaders employ suitable, chosen collaborators, sharing with them Christ's mission and entrusting to them various responsibilities.

Positions employed in this School help extend the ministry of the School leaders in particular ways as outlined in the job description.  The employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the School leaders in the performance of their ministry and, therefore, engages in ministry for the Church.

Job Summary
The Assistant Athletic Director / Middle School PE Teacher supports the mission of Bishop Louis Reicher Cathoiic School by fostering the physical, spiritual, and character develop of students through a comprehensive athletics and physical education program. This dual-role position is responsible for teaching middle school PE (6th – 8th Grade), assisting in the administration of the school’s athletic programs (including intramurals), and supporting coaches, students, and families in alignment with Catholic values and will implement a developmentally appropriate, skills-based physical education curriculum that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and overall wellness for students in 6th – 8th grade. The PE Teacher models Gospel values, ensures student safety, and creates a supportive environment rooted in the teachings of the Catholic Church. 

Essential Duties 

• Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.

• Acts as a witness to the Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
• Support and adhere to the Standards of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school. 

• Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.

• Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.

Middle School PE

• Plan and deliver a developmentally appropriate, skills-based PE curriculum that encourages physical competence, active living, and positive social interactions.

• Provide engaging and age-appropriate physical activities aligned to state and diocesan standards.

• Ensure supervision and safety of students at all times during physical activities, both indoors and outdoors.

• Maintain gymnasium and all PE equipment in safe and organized condition.

• Use effective teaching strategies and varied assessment tools to monitor and support student progress.

• Maintain accurate academic and behavioral records in accordance with school policy.

• Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student confidence and cooperation. 

• Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, safety, and concerns.

Assistant Athletic Director Duties

· Support the Athletic Director in daily athletic operations, scheduling, and program development.

· Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and supporting coaches for all assigned positions.

· Serve as a liaison between coaches, parents, students, and administration to promote unity and address concerns.

· Oversee and support game-day logistics and Administrator on Duty responsibilities.

Intramurals Program Coordination

· Coordinate intramural sports for 4th – 6th grade, including team formation, volunteer coaches, and league communication.

· Organize and lead parent meetings, enforce civility codes, and promote positive sportsmanship.

· Oversee uniforms, permission slips/waivers, and maintain accurate rosters.

· Coordinate game-day operations, including scorekeepers, clock, and supervision.

· Serve as a leader and visible presence at intramural and lower school events

Spiritual Formation & Community Engagement

· Promote spiritual development in athletics through modeling, mentorship, and participation in Mass and community events. 

· Engage with families and the wider community to promote the school’s mission and athletic programs. 


Requirements

  

Knowledge and Skills

· Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church and a commitment to Catholic education.

· Understanding of child development, physical education standards, and differentiated instruction.

· Familiarity with physical literacy principles and developmentally appropriate movement skills.

· Ability to manage student behavior effectively in individual and group settings.

· Proficiency in using instructional technology and educational tools.

· Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment for physical activity.

· Demonstrated professionalism in demeanor, conduct, and work habits.

· Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to school life and events.

· Ability to work independently and self-motivate.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

· Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:

· Physical education instruction and/or athletic program administration.

Certifications and Training:

Valid Texas driver's license.

Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

  • Must meet the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese and  TCCB ED. 
  • Must meet staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese and school administration. 
  • Must complete Religion Certification Part 1 within two years of the date of hire, completing a minimum of 25 hours each year.
