The Assistant Barn Manager is responsible for providing Leg Up Farm horses and facility with the best daily care and management.
All daily care of the horses; including feeding, mucking stalls, turnout, blanketing, etc.
The Assistant Barn Manager will work with the Barn Manager to ensure all shifts related to horse care and barn maintenance are covered. This includes working with the equine staffing team to meet coverage needs. It also means that if coverage cannot be secured, the shift falls to the Assistant Barn Manager ad Barn Manager to complete. They are expected to work in tandem to ensure fair and equitable shift coverage amongst the staff.
Maintaining medical records for each of the horses.
Routine maintenance of riding spaces to include watering and harrowing.
Routine grooming and/or medical treatments for horses as assigned.
Basic maintenance in equine spaces as needed.
Completion of weekly and monthly barn tasks as assigned.
Examines each animal for signs of sickness or inquiry; follows departmental protocols if any adverse conditions exist.
Maintains neat and orderly riding areas, tack room, feed room, and aisles.
Assist in training of new barn assistants.
Oversees the activities of barn staff and volunteers
Assist with managing inventory.
Communicates with volunteers in a positive and respectful manner.
Assists with training and education of new and existing volunteers.
Solicits volunteer feedback; encourages volunteer interaction on a consistent basis.
Maintains an environment conducive to volunteer safety.
Serves as a role model and mentor to equine volunteers – expresses appreciation and gratitude for their service.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED- Required
Minimum five years' experience riding, managing and/or training horses- Preferred
Completion of new staff orientation trainings-Required
Mandated Reporting and Child Abuse Training-Required
First Aid & CPR Certification-Preferred
Current State Child Abuse History Clearance- Required
Current State Police Record check- Required
Current Federal Criminal History Background check (FBI Fingerprinting)- Required
Initial Physical Examination - Required
Compliance with drug testing & satisfactory test results- Required
Valid PA Driver's License, proof of automobile registration and required insurance- Required
Basic computer literacy skills including word processing, spreadsheets and emails - Required
Excellent skills in verbal and written communication - Required
Basic mathematic skills - Required
Highly detail-oriented, able to work independently, multi-task, enjoy interfacing with other staff at all levels - Required
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community - Required
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and proprietary business practices - Required
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and in a client-centered, developmental, environmental model of therapy - Required
