Thompson’s continuum of care encompasses three domains: prevention, mental health services and foster care.  All Thompson programs are trauma-informed and evidence-based/evidence-informed with the intention of building resilience in our clients (ages 0-18) and their families, both virtually and in person. What will you do as a Assistant Childcare Director? 

As an Assistant Childcare Director at Thompson Child Development Center (TCDC), you will provide safe, effective operation of the facility during throughout the day. To plan and implement appropriate and realistic schedule coverage for the center’s hours of operation. 

A typical day as a Assistant Childcare Director will include duties such as:

• Assist in developing and implementing age-appropriate educational programs. 
• Ensure classrooms meet developmental and safety standards. 
• Support teachers in managing classroom behavior and lesson planning. 
• Monitor child progress and help address developmental concerns. Staff Supervision & Training 
• Help recruit, train, and evaluate staff. 
• Provide ongoing coaching and professional development. 
• Step in to cover classrooms or duties when needed. 
• Foster a positive, collaborative work environment. Administrative Responsibilities 
• Maintain compliance with state licensing regulations and accreditation standards. 
• Assist with scheduling, payroll, and staff records. 
• Help manage enrollment, waitlists, and parent communications. 
• Support budgeting and purchasing of supplies and materials. 
• Ensure the center is clean, safe, and well-maintained. 
• Conduct safety drills and oversee health protocols. 
• Address facility issues and coordinate with maintenance staff. Family & Community Engagement 
• Communicate regularly with parents about their child’s progress and center updates. 
• Plan and participate in family events and community outreach. 
• Handle parent concerns or conflicts with professionalism and care. Leadership & Strategic Planning 
• Collaborate with the Director on long-term goals and improvements. 
• Analyze center performance and suggest enhancements. 
• Operating the Center and Step in as Director when needed

• Starting Pay Range: $45k-47k annually

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements: 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related Human service field  
• 3 years of verifiable experience serving children and families
• Must have knowledge of regulations governed by DCDEE and Mecklenburg County Health Department standards
• All potential job candidates must pass a drug screening test, and an extensive background check is required.
