Job Description - Assistant Controller

Robbins Recruiting has partnered with a Fire and Life Safety company to help identify an Assistant Controller. The Assistant Controller, reporting directly to the Controller, will support day-to-day accounting operations for the Charlotte, NC-based branch while serving as part of the broader corporate accounting team. This individual will initially focus on routine accounting operations, including monthly reconciliations and book closings, percentage of completion accounting calculations, and overseeing other accounting support staff.


As the role evolves, the Assistant Controller will take on expanded responsibilities supporting monthly consolidations, reporting, and accounting function preparation at the corporate level across multiple entities within the Company's platform. This is a strong opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional to grow within a fast-growing, acquisition-driven platform, gaining exposure to both branch-level and corporate-level accounting as the Company continues to scale through M&A.


Key Responsibilities
• Serve as assistant to the Controller, handling routine accounting operations including monthly reconciliations and book closings
• Support month-end and year-end close processes for the branch, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
• Own the percentage of completion accounting process
• Oversee accounting team including billing, collections, payables, and cash application processes
• Support the implementation and standardization of NetSuite across the branch and the broader platform
• Assist in standardizing accounting processes and controls to support scalability and audit readiness
• As the role evolves, support monthly consolidations across multiple entities within the Company's platform
• Support corporate-level reporting and accounting function preparation as the platform grows
• Partner with corporate accounting team members to ensure consistent accounting practices
• Support integration of newly acquired businesses into the corporate accounting structure and systems as the Company grows through M&A
• Assist with audits, tax preparation, and compliance requirements as needed
• Drive continuous improvement in accounting workflows, systems, and reporting capabilities across both branch and corporate levels


Ideal Candidate Profile
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a multi-entity or service-based environment
• Strong understanding of monthly reconciliations, book closings, and general accounting principles
• Experience with construction and percentage of completion accounting preferred
• NetSuite experience preferred; comfort supporting system implementation and standardization
• Solid technical accounting knowledge and strong attention to detail
• Comfortable working in a fast-growing, acquisition-driven environment with evolving responsibilities
• Strong communication skills with the ability to partner across branch operations and corporate accounting
• Ability to manage competing priorities and support both branch-level and corporate-level accounting needs
• Eagerness to grow into broader corporate accounting responsibilities as the platform scales
