Job Summary:
Assists Lead Custodian in performing general cleaning and janitorial duties in common areas. Maintains restrooms, lunchroom, offices, and areas open to the public in a clean and orderly manner. Perform cleaning duties, such as: sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, washing walls and glass, removing trash and recycling to designated areas, and dusting.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains a neat and orderly janitors’ room; ensures cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked.
- Wipe down and disinfect tables, chairs, handles, and doors throughout the building by disinfecting and wiping down in regular intervals.
- Service, clean, sanitize toilets, sinks, counters, handles, floors, and mirrors in restrooms.
- Supply restrooms with toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, and Lysol spray.
- Wipe down microwaves and refrigerators inside and out as needed, or at least monthly.
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming where appropriate.
- Gather and empty trash into designated areas.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.
- Clean, dust, and polish furniture, walls, machines, and fixtures.
- Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as unlocking doors at designated times and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
Other Duties:
- Arrange magazines in waiting area.
- Load dishwasher, start cycle, and put away clean dishes daily.
- Clean out microwaves and refrigerators on a monthly or semi-monthly basis.
- Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
- Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
- Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Detail-oriented and thorough.
- Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance such as replacing a light fixture or unclogging pipes.
- Ability to keep designated areas clean and orderly.
- Ability to interact with staff and customers while remaining professional, polite, and courteous.
