Caprock Academy is seeking a Assistant Dean for both lower school (grades K-6). Caprock Academy is a public, tuition-free school chartered by the Colorado Charter School Institute and utilizes the timeless principles of classically oriented education. As a person integral to Caprock Academy’s team, the Assistant Dean will maintain the integrity of, advocate for, and facilitate the implementation of Caprock Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values of character, accountability and academics. The Assistant Dean will facilitate personal leadership within its student body and faculty, especially with regards to student discipline and teacher supervision.

Caprock Academy follows the Core Knowledge© curriculum in grades K–8. This curriculum encompasses language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography, fine arts, and physical education. The curriculum is characterized by content-rich instruction, cumulative knowledge, content-specific lessons, and coherent sequencing. The foundation of our academics are rooted in classical education philosophy and pedagogy, following the grammar, logic and rhetoric trivium. The school’s mission is to help all students achieve their highest academic and character potential using proven, accelerated academic programs while providing a safe environment. This mission is achieved through our vision of strengthening the community through the involvement of parents, educators, and community leaders working together to provide an environment that fosters academic excellence and develops strong character in our students. The Assistant Dean will work closely with the Lower or upper school Dean to oversee the day-to-day life of students and work in partnership with teachers to support and guide students’ character and social-emotional development. The Assistant Dean will help cultivate an inclusive community where all students feel seen and have a sense they belong. Key responsibilities include taking the lead on student discipline and enhancing student programs, including advisory, behavior policies, and social-emotional learning. The ideal candidate will be empathetic and grounded in a developmental understanding of students ages 5-18, having experience working with and supporting a community of diverse backgrounds. They will have extensive experience working with students and have a deep respect for their intellectual and social-emotional development.

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Salary Exempt 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, full-time 

WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week

PAY RANGE: Starting salary $58,660 depending on experience and education

REPORTS TO: Deans

Essential Duties:

  • Work collaboratively with Deans and Head of School in all student matters.
  • Work in partnership with the Deans to cultivate a positive student culture in alignment with the school’s mission.
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with all school constituencies, including students, parents, teachers, staff, and administrators.
  • Lead student growth and discipline, incorporating restorative practices, and school values while partnering with the Deans and counselors.
  • Communicate with the Deans, team leaders, teachers, SPED department, counselors, and parents regarding student behaviors and disciplinary situations.  
  • Support faculty in classroom management.
  • Help lead faculty and staff in teaching and clarifying the school’s expectations for behavior.
  • In coordination with the Deans, develop new student programs as needed.
  • School-wide responsibilities include grade level and faculty meetings. 
  • Other responsibilities may include committee work, field trips, covering classes for absent teachers, and attending student performances and athletic events.
  • While there are no plans currently, the Dean may also teach one class.
  • Assist the Deans in utilizing student data to evaluate and promote school culture.
  • Work with the Deans to develop and execute professional development.
  • Implement student discipline per school rules, policies and programs (eg. Love & Logic) with students, staff, and parents.
  • Serve on different school committees as directed per the Head of School.
  • Act as an advocate for students.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant state, federal, and local laws, and regulations (including Colorado Charter School Institute).
  • Utilize all available opportunities to provide character education to the student body, such as discipline, lessons, and modeling. 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (education or related field preferred).
  • Experience in management and supervision.
  • Commitment to Classical Education and the Core Knowledge Sequence as well as aspects of Caprock Academy’s Core Values of character, accountability, and academics.
  • Experience working with students of varying ages, skill levels, and circumstances.
  • Thorough familiarity with principles of child, early adolescent, and educational psychology.
  • Classroom teaching experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively with peers and team members.
  • Professional and personal integrity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent conflict resolution experience.
