Job Overview

The Assistant Designer for Charter Club Linen and cashmere is beginning their career and in the process of learning the company culture, area, brand aesthetics and principles. What You Will Do

  • Build an understanding and develop skills in researching category, trend, and customer for Charter Club Linen and Cashmere.
  • Assist Design Team in executing into the Private Brand direction through materials, trims, silhouettes, colors, and patterns.
  • Grow design knowledge by supporting the design team in executing a strategic vision, with a progressive, customer centric approach-achieving overall product strategy and merchandise objectives
  • Assist in presentation materials/set-up for design led meetings, including cutting and mounting of foam core boards
  • Assist on in-season Design changes to make for the department and vendors, working closely with product development and technical design
  • Strengthen the skills to participate in cross-functional team meetings recapping action points to team
  • Work closely with people leader to achieve deadlines and understand priority and workload expectations
  • Assist and build skills in developing flat mechanical sketches for design development packages for both woven and sweater womenswear categories
  • Assist in creating and distributing tech packages in PLM and Sharepoint
  • Assist in the approving strike-offs, samples, and other development materials
  • Build skills needed to use Adobe and CLO programs for style, color, and pattern development
  • Assist in reviewing and commenting on development samples and communicating updates to overseas vendors
  • Create relationships and communicate regularly with cross-functional partners throughout the development cycle
  • On the job learning includes how to identify opportunities and develop an assortment

 

Skills You Will Need

Research Skills: Ability to develop an understanding and skills in researching category, trend, and customer preferences

Presentation Skills: Competency in preparing presentation materials and setting up for design-led meetings

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong skills for actively participating in cross-functional team meetings, summarizing action points for the manager, and collaborating closely with team leaders to meet deadlines

Technical Skills: Ability to create flat mechanical sketches for design development packages, work with Adobe and CLO programs for style, color, and pattern development, and participate in creating and distributing tech packages

Relationship Building: Establish relationships and maintain regular communication with cross-functional partners throughout the development cycle

Adaptability and Learning: Willingness to learn on the job, identify opportunities, and develop an assortment

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, crucial for effective collaboration and achieving results

Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Adobe Design programs

PLM Knowledge: Working knowledge of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) is a plus

Color and Print Sense: Strong color sense and print sense, with the ability to view and differentiate the color spectrum

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design preferred
  • Experience in Retail or Design Internships preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal partners and overseas vendors
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Canva, and Adobe Design programs
  • Working knowledge of PLM is a plus
  • Strong color sense/print sense
  • Knitting/sweater experience
  • Ability to view and differentiate the color spectrum
  • Ability to collaborate and achieve results with a desire to grow within the company and pursue a career at Macy’s.
  • This role involves performing essential job functions such as communication, collaboration, and use of office and computer systems. Responsibilities include the ability to access and review written and electronic information, and to move within the work environment and interact with workplace materials as needed to carry out job responsibilities.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs
