The Washington State Gambling Commission has an exciting opportunity within our Enforcement Operations Division (EOD).

We invite applications for the role of Assistant Director. In this pivotal position, you will be responsible for all matters related to the regulation and enforcement of gambling per the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and the Washington Administrative Code (WAC).

Reporting directly to the agency’s Deputy Director, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance and maintaining the integrity of our state’s gambling industry. You will also play a part in supporting our mission by fostering collaboration and ensuring team well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Oversight

– Lead and oversee the enforcement efforts, ensuring alignment with legal frameworks and organizational goals.

Operational Management

– Direct day-to-day operations of the EOD, including the Regulation & Enforcement Unit, the Tribal Gaming Unit (TGU), the Licensing Unit, and Electronic Gambling Lab (EGL), the Intelligence Unit, and the Training Unit.

Collaboration

– Foster collaboration across units, promoting effective communication and knowledge sharing.

Team Leadership

– Manage and support a dedicated team of professionals, driving excellence and continuous improvement. Lead by example, inspiring and motivating team members to achieve excellence.

Team Support

– Prioritize team well-being by fostering a positive work environment, addressing challenges, and promoting growth.

The location of the position is preferred to be at Headquarters in Lacey, other locations to include hybrid can be considered.

to get a copy of the job description emailed to you.Four or more years of experience in auditing, accounting, law enforcement, regulatory, fraud, or investigations. At least two years of experience must be as a certified law enforcement professional.

Note:

Education involving college level courses in criminal justice, accounting, finance, public or business administration, or a closely related field can substitute for two years of the above experience requirement.

AND

A minimum of four years of experience managing a team or work unit that includes direct supervision of professional employees, and planning, directing, and controlling resources.

AND

Graduate of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission’s Basic Law Enforcement Academy or equivalent. The equivalent can include out of state and federal law enforcement academies.

Note:

This position does not require the candidate to be a currently certified law enforcement professional.

Identify key issues and make recommendations to increase efficiency and meet goals.

In addition, we may give preference to candidates who

:

Desirable Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, accounting, business administration, legal, political science or related field

OR

related experience in auditing, accounting, regulatory, law enforcement, fraud or investigations.

Minimum of four years’ experience in an executive leadership position that included managing multiple agency mission-critical programs, actively participating in decisions impacting the agency, managing a team or work unit that includes direct supervision of professional employees, and planning, directing, and controlling resources.

Desirable Competencies
Extensive knowledge of RCW 9.46 and criminal elements of associated crimes as outlined in RCW.
Extensive knowledge of criminal procedure, investigative techniques, writing and executing search warrants, subpoenas, and operational plans.
Uses knowledge and understanding of the agency's formal and informal structures, external trends and influences to make decisions and take actions that satisfy diverse interests and contribute to the agency's goals.
Seeks and responds to opportunities to resolve problems, achieve goals, and otherwise advance the agency’s mission.
Accepts personal responsibility for the job, the quality, timeliness of work, and meeting expectations. Can be relied upon to achieve expected results, meet deadlines, and adhere to work schedules.
Adapts approach, goals, and methods to achieve successful solutions and results.
