Job Description - Assistant Director Human Resources

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Assistant Director of Human Resources is a strategic, hands-on HR leader who supports the advancement of the organization’s people strategy in alignment with its mission, values, and business objectives. The Assistant Director has strong HR generalist experience and plays a key role in leading HR initiatives, advising leaders, and inspiring and developing HR team members while ensuring consistent and effective implementation of HR programs across the organization.

Core Responsibilities

  • Trusted advisor with experience in all areas of Human Resources, including but not limited to Legal and Compliance, Compensation and Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Team Member development, Labor and Employee Relations and Team Member engagement.
  • Collaborates with executives, HR partners, and business leaders to assess organizational needs, identify gaps, and implement effective, scalable solutions.
  • Leads, inspires and develops a diverse HR team, fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Leads the recruiting team and manages HR systems including careers website, applicant tracking system, and onboarding platforms.
  • Designs and oversees innovative training, professional development, and leadership development programs at all organizational levels.
  • Partners with senior leaders to develop and implement engagement and recognition programs aligned with company culture and values.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment and labor laws (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, NLRB).
  • Develops and maintains HR policies, practices, and programs aligned with legal requirements and best practices.
  • Provides guidance and education to leaders and team members on employment law.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support department and organizational objectives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years HR experience required.
  • 3+ years talent development and or talent acquisition experience preferred.
  • 2+ years experience leading or supervising HR staff, project teams, or functional programs required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Counseling, Psychology or related field required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.
  • HR Certification such as a Professional Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM-CP preferred.
  • Strong compliance and training background.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment and labor laws.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven experience influencing leaders, leading teams, and driving enterprise-wide HR initiatives.
  • Must be compassionate and have a passion for people.
  • Fluent in Spanish preferred.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office setting.
  • Must be tolerant of varying conditions of noise level, temperature, illumination, and air quality.
  • May be exposed to smoke.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Constant contact with executives, department management, Team Members, and guests.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing and mobility.
  • Balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions.
  • Lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Eye/hand coordination.
  • Use of standard office equipment.
  • Ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.
