Title: APPLE Project Upward Bound Assistant Director


Report To: Executive Director of TRIO


Classification: Exempt, Full-time


Component: President's Office


Scope of Position: The responsibilities of the position are to be established and carried out in accordance with the mission of Lyon College in accordance with U.S. Department of Education regulations.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Oversee the development and implementation of the strategic plan for grade-based mentoring & instructional curriculum for Academic Sessions, ensuring it targets program objectives and satisfies regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate with the Curriculum and Programming Coordinator to develop objectives and outcomes for Modified Student Programming.

  • Develop, implement, and oversee an assessment plan for programming and student progress in accordance with grant needs and requirements.

  • Serve as lead on the collection and maintenance of data necessary for annual performance report submission and program evaluation and assessment.

  • Coordinate and maintain participant paperwork formatting policies and information collection strategies.

  • Work with the Executive Director and target school personnel to coordinate transportation needs for the Academic and Summer Sessions.

  • Recruit, hire, and supervise part-time and support staff including academic session mentors, summer tutor/mentors, and summer residential staff.

  • Provide support and direction to Administrative and Outreach Coordinator, Curriculum and Programming Coordinator, and part-time staff and conduct regular staff meetings.

  • Collect and maintain up-to-date enrollment and service data for current participants and use information to develop data-based recruitment procedures and determine annual targets.

  • Assist in recruitment efforts at target schools as well as the evaluation and onboarding of new participants including, but not limited to, conducting interviews, completing needs assessments, and facilitating orientation sessions.

  • Work closely with target school personnel on various issues related to program needs and student success.

  • Serve as an Academic Advisor to program participants and conduct advising sessions as assigned.

  • Serve as lead coordinator for Summer Session planning and implementation alongside the UBMS Assistant Director.

  • Submit a workshop proposal for Summer Session and teach if selected (based on program needs).

  • Participate in and contribute to professional development activities of the staff team, including appropriate conference and training opportunities.

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of TRIO.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRED SKILLS:



  • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree in education, social work, or related field preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years of appropriate and relevant professional experience working in a TRIO federal program or similar program with economically disadvantaged, first-generation college students, and/or students with disabilities

  • Understanding of holistic support services, development of individual service plans, financial aid and literacy programming, and program retention.

  • Commitment to supporting academic needs of students facing barriers to educational success through academic coaching/advising, counseling, instruction, advocacy, and/or education.

  • Current driver's license and ability to drive college-owned vehicles as necessary.
