Assistant Director of Facility Operations

The Virginia Zoo in Norfolk is looking for an experienced Assistant Director to oversee the facility's day to day operations.

The Assistant Director plans, directs, and evaluates programs and projects in support of the organization’s facilities – engineering, construction, maintenance, operations, utilities, housekeeping, grounds, safety, and security.

This position typically works with leadership to select and oversea the work of building contractors, with responsibility to stay within costs, schedule, and quality control.
Department Hiring Salary Range: $89,312 - $102,708.80
Essential functions include but are not limited to:

Supervises, coordinates and monitors the day-to-day maintenance operations, security and safety of the Zoo
Ensures daily maintenance operational needs are met including building and equipment repair, cleaning, and security
Develops maintenance and safety related policies and procedures in accordance with industry standards and USDA and AZA regulations
Develops work plans, provides training, monitors and evaluates work methods of subordinates; instructs and trains employees in proper methods and procedures; approves timecards; conducts performance evaluations
Inspects all assigned properties, equipment, and specific facilities to ensure compliance with established standards, regulations and laws
Maintains all records, licensing, schedules, inventory, etc. for assigned areas
Determines the need for and secures contracted services internally thru the City and externally thru third-party vendors
Negotiates vendor rates and monitors service provision for quality and timeliness
Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires professional level of knowledge of a discipline equivalent to that which is acquired in a Bachelor's degree-level of study, preferably in the area assigned.

Five years' experience in a related field, preferably in a park facilities management capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Specific departments may require an advanced certification. Valid Driver's License.

Signing Bonus:

This position is eligible for a one-time $5000 signing bonus for applications received on or after February 22, 2022. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2500 upon completion of your probationary period. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.”
