Position Summary

The Assistant Director supports the Director in the daily leadership and operations of Discovery Learning Center (DLC). This position helps maintain a safe, nurturing, organized, and high-quality learning environment while coaching and supporting teachers, ensuring licensing compliance, promoting family engagement, and overseeing curriculum implementation and continuous quality improvement. The Assistant Director assumes responsibility for center operations in the Director's absence.

Essential Responsibilities

Leadership and Staff Support

• Support recruitment, onboarding, orientation, staff training, certification tracking, and ongoing professional development,      including staff meetings and in-service days.
• Conduct classroom observations and coach teachers on classroom management, curriculum implementation, child      development, and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Model positive interactions with children and best practices in early childhood education.

Center Operations

• Coordinate staffing, classroom coverage, scheduling, enrollment, attendance, ratios, and daily operations to ensure consistent      program quality.
• Assist with maintaining classroom materials, supplies, equipment, and inventory.
• Support opening and closing procedures while maintaining a safe, organized, and welcoming facility.
• Prepare the monthly school calendar in collaboration with teachers and the Director.

Curriculum and Assessment

• Review lesson plans to ensure alignment with curriculum objectives and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Monitor Teaching Strategies GOLD (TSG) documentation, assessments, and data to support continuous improvement.
• Coordinate ASQ screenings, review results with the Director, and support family communication.
• Support school readiness, curriculum reviews, CLASS observations, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Assist with required reporting, billing, and documentation for funding and regulatory agencies.

Family and Community Engagement

• Assist with enrollment tours, orientations, and new family transitions.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and community partners while supporting family communication, conferences, enrollment, and engagement activities.

Licensing, Compliance, and Health & Safety

• Ensure compliance with licensing, accreditation, health, safety, and center policies by supporting inspections, monitoring classroom practices, and maintaining required documentation.
• Manage enrollment records and required documentation, prepare administrative reports, support front office operations, and maintain confidentiality.
• Other appropriate responsibilities as determined by management.

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.
• Florida Director Credential (or ability to obtain within an established timeframe).
• Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC/CDA) or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of experience in a licensed early childhood education setting; prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of Florida childcare licensing regulations and best practices in early childhood education.
• Experience implementing Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD (TSG), and Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) preferred.
• Experience using Procare or similar childcare management software preferred.
• Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, and other electronic tools 
• Valid Florida Drivers’ License with acceptable driving record.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to supervise and actively engage with children throughout the day in indoor and outdoor environments, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, stooping, sitting on the floor, and moving throughout      the facility for extended periods.

Schedule

•  Regular business hours are 7:30am-5:30pm. Your schedule may vary depending on business needs.
•  This is an on-site role.
