Job Description - Assistant Director - Student Activities

The hiring salary for this position is $63,000.

POSITION SUMMARY


The Assistant Director - Student Activities is an essential position in the successful creation of a truly engaged and transformative campus community at the Culinary Institute of America (“CIA”). This role serves as the primary advisor to the school’s programming board, S.P.I.C.E. and they are responsible for managing a number of large-scale activities on campus, such as Cook-Offs, Summer Fest, and De-stress events.


 


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Advise, develop, and support the Student Programming Board (S.P.I.C.E.).

  • Responsible for creating and implementing a robust calendar of events for students that cultivate an inclusive, safe, and diverse environment for students.

  • Serve as the primary staff member overseeing the student programming staff by supporting their recruitment, training, and development.

  • Coordinate with outside vendors when needed for on-campus events.

  • Responsible for the planning and organization of all off-campus student trips, including supervision when required.

  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs and the Associate Director – Student Engagement on the planning, organization, and execution of all major Cook-Off’s.

  • Oversee the budget for all large-scale programs and Cook-Off’s, to ensure accuracy throughout the planning process.

  • Work with the Office of Development & Alumni Relations and their sponsors to help secure donated products for various programs.

  • Implement a plan to collect data and information from events, in an effort to make informed decisions as it relates to any potential change.

  • Coordinate and manage weekly meetings with S.P.I.C.E. and student programming staff.

  • Work in collaboration with the Dining Services staff for any late night/weekend programming within The Egg, a CIA dining facility.

  • Assist the Director – Campus Life and department colleagues with overall management and oversight of the Student Recreation Center within the Student Commons.

  • Assist with applicable School, Student Life, and Departmental programs and services as requested by the Associate Director – Campus Life.

  • Any and all other duties as assigned.


 


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


Education:



  • Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs/Leadership or another related field of study or a Bachelor's Degree with at least two (2) years of relevant professional experience.


Experience:



  • Minimum of one (1) years of related work experience either as a full-time professional or graduate student planning student activities or working with student programming boards.


 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of professional experience planning student activities or working with student programming boards.

  • Experience as a student leader on a student programming board, or other student organization.

  • Experience with public speaking and presentations.

  • Strong social media knowledge and experience.


 


REQUIRED SKILLS



  • Experience advising/supervising student leaders and/or volunteers.

  • Experience planning and implementing training protocol for student leaders and/or volunteers.

  • Ability and desire to actively engage with students to help them develop their potential as student leaders.

  • Exceptional organizational skills.

  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills required. Must have a demonstrated ability in time management, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Strong computer experience, which must include the ability to work effectively with MS Office suite products, i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation.

  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment and maintain collaborative relationships.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of student development.


 


WORKING CONDITIONS



  • Must be available to work nights and weekends as required due to business needs.

  • Will need to support student leaders in the evenings/weekends.

  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry 50 lbs.
