The Assistant Fitness Director plays a key leadership role in delivering an exceptional fitness experience for residents while supporting the overall success of the community wellness operation. Reporting directly to the Fitness Director, this position combines operational leadership, programming, member engagement, and facility management to create a welcoming, high-performing environment.
The ideal candidate is an organized, service-driven professional who enjoys building relationships, solving problems, and taking ownership of daily operations. They are equally comfortable leading a fitness class, managing facility operations, analyzing participation trends, coordinating events, and supporting strategic initiatives that enhance the resident experience.
This position serves as the primary operational partner to the Fitness Director and is empowered to make informed decisions, lead independently, and continuously seek opportunities to improve programs, services, and overall facility performance.
Primary Responsibilities
Facility Operations & Member Experience
Support the daily operations of the community Fitness Center while maintaining the service standards established by Risher Amenity Management.
Foster a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for residents, guests, instructors, and vendors.
Monitor overall facility appearance and cleanliness, ensuring all fitness spaces, studios, common areas, locker rooms, and support spaces remain presentation-ready.
Oversee daily facility opening and closing procedures as assigned.
Serve as a visible and approachable resource for community members, responding professionally to questions and concerns.
Programming & Community Engagement
Coordinate and execute fitness programs, wellness initiatives, special events, and community activations.
Assist in developing innovative programming designed to increase resident participation and engagement.
Recruit, onboard, schedule, and support group fitness instructors while maintaining current certifications and class offerings.
Teach weekly group fitness classes and maintain an active presence within the community.
Develop and grow a personal training clientele that supports the needs of the facility.
Operations & Performance
Track and report weekly operational updates to the Fitness Director.
Prepare monthly reports including facility utilization, program participation, revenue, and operational metrics.
Maintain accurate inventory of program supplies and operational equipment.
Assist with budgeting initiatives and financial tracking as directed.
Monitor vendor relationships and coordinate services that support facility operations.
Facility Maintenance & Risk Management
Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules for fitness equipment.
Perform routine equipment inspections and assist with maintenance requests and repairs.
Help ensure compliance with all safety procedures, operational standards, and emergency protocols.
Maintain CPR, First Aid, and other required certifications.
Marketing & Member Communication
Create engaging content for social media and digital communication platforms.
Support marketing initiatives that increase awareness of programs, services, and events.
Promote the Fitness Center through resident outreach, tours, community partnerships, and special events.
Assist with newsletters, promotional campaigns, and community communications.
Leadership & Team Support
Partner closely with the Fitness Director to execute departmental goals and operational initiatives.
Demonstrate independent decision-making while maintaining consistent communication with leadership for final approval.
Contribute ideas that improve operational efficiency, member satisfaction, and overall program success.
Support additional departmental projects and leadership initiatives as assigned.
Maintain flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and special events as program needs require.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree required.
Certifications
Current Personal Training Certification from an accredited organization (NASM, ACSM, ACE, NSCA, or equivalent).
Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service abilities.
Experience coordinating fitness programming, events, or wellness initiatives.
Organization and time management with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common scheduling, reporting, and social media platforms.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Adaptability and problem solving
Passion for health, wellness, and building meaningful community experiences.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, move and carry up to and beyond 50lbs.
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
