Within DCF, the
Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program
office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.
Florida State Hospital (FSH)
is a mental health treatment facility owned and operated by the State of Florida and is part of the Department of Children and Families. The department's mission is to "work in partnership with local communities to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency."

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as Assistant Food Services Director - SES T his position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

Assumes administrative duties of employees and spends the majority of their time communicating with, monitoring, training, and evaluating employees; planning and directing employees' work; and having the authority to hire, transfer, promote, discharge, assign or discipline subordinate employees or to effectively recommend such actions. This includes writing administrative personnel duties, such as evaluations and job descriptions.

Responsible for resident trayline at central kitchen and central forensic. Food must appear appetizing, be palatable, served and held at proper temperatures to retain nutritional value. Trayline service must be run in and at a timely manner according to a predetermined schedule, and each tray must be monitored and corrected for accuracy. Monitors portions on all diets.

Checks food before and after pre-portioning to prevent waste and ensure standards are met. Demonstrates appropriate portion size to Food Service employees via training. Assures proper serving utensils are used.

Demonstrates personally and maintains that each employee practices safe and sanitary procedures; FSH and Food Service Department, at all times. Corrects unsafe/unsanitary conditions immediately. Reports all faulty equipment to Vocational Training Supervisor I. Develops and implements sanitation and preventative maintenance programs. Assures employees practice sanitary procedures at all times.

Supervises preparation of snacks. Responsible for proper packaging and distribution, package labeling, and proper order for truck drivers to pick up and deliver to units. Prepares daily inspections and assures each record is corrected as needed.

Responsible for the security of the department which includes, but not limited to, food supplies, equipment, and the facility. Secures kitchen at the end of evening meal and turns key into Fire Department.

Responsible for the total operation of the Food Service Department during the absence of the Director, OMCI's, and OMC II.

Conducts and attends scheduled in-services and Managers' meeting. Ensures staff understanding of material covered.

Participates in Quality Assurance and menu planning.
+
Performs other related duties.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

Knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques.
+
Knowledge of the equipment, procedures and techniques used in food service.
+
Knowledge of food service safety and sanitation procedures.
+
Knowledge of food service purchasing procedures.
+
Knowledge of maintenance requirements of kitchen equipment.
+
Ability to train others in food service procedures and techniques.
+
Ability to plan and make bulk food purchases.
+
Ability to plan and direct food service for large groups of people.
+
Ability to supervise people.
+
Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
+
Ability to communicate effectively.
+
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
+
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
+
Three years Supervisory experience.
+
One year experience of planning and directing in the food service industry.
+
Experience in reviewing inventory, controlling issuance of foodstuffs and maintain records on procurement and disbursement.
Preference will be given to applicants who have:
+
Three years of supervisory experience and initiating RPA's, Disciplinary and Performance Evaluations.
+
Prior experience in Food Service management principles and techniques.
+
Abilities in planning nutritional meals for groups of people.
+
Work history of purchasing all types of commodities including a wide range of food and equipment needed and issuing purchase orders.

Work history of planning and directing a food service operation in a large institution.
