Assistant Grocery Manager

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Grocery Department. This position helps ensure exceptional merchandising, inventory control, customer service, labor management, and operational execution. The Assistant Grocery Manager provides leadership to department associates, maintains high merchandising standards, and helps achieve department sales, profitability, and productivity goals while ensuring a positive shopping experience.

• Assist in managing day-to-day Grocery Department operations.


• Ensure shelves, displays, and promotional areas are stocked, organized, and properly maintained.


• Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering, receiving, and product replenishment.


• Ensure proper product rotation and inventory management practices are followed.


• Support execution of company programs, promotions, and seasonal merchandising plans.

• Maintain attractive and well-stocked displays that meet company merchandising standards.


• Ensure pricing, signage, and product labeling are accurate and current.


• Monitor out-of-stock conditions and coordinate timely replenishment.


• Assist in reducing shrink through proper handling, rotation, and inventory controls.


• Support department readiness for promotions, holidays, and special events.

• Supervise associates during assigned shifts and provide daily direction.


• Train, coach, and develop team members to improve performance and service levels.

• Assist with receiving deliveries and verifying product accuracy.


• Maintain organized backroom and storage areas.


• Ensure products are stored safely and efficiently.


• Monitor inventory movement between backroom and sales floor.


• Support inventory counts and audit preparation activities.

• High school diploma or equivalent.


• Previous grocery, retail, or supervisory experience.


• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.


• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.


• Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Previous grocery department leadership experience.


• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, or a related field.


• Experience with inventory management, merchandising, and labor planning.


• Experience leading teams in a high-volume retail environment.

• Strong leadership and people-development skills.


• Excellent customer service and communication abilities.


• Knowledge of grocery merchandising, inventory control, and stock rotation practices.
