Assistant Groundskeeper

Description

The Facilities Office seeks a full-time (40 hrs/week) Assistant Groundskeeper to assist the grounds and landscape manager in maintaining campus grounds to enhance the safety and beauty of campus grounds, gardens, walkways, roads, and athletic fields.  Must be able to demonstrate the ability to proficiently operate, clean, repair, prepare and paint equipment including tractors, trucks, mowers, chainsaws, weedwhips, backhoe, loaders, skid steer loader, forklift and any other equipment needed to perform duties assigned Responsibilities include cutting grass on campus in the summer and plowing in the winter; commercial pesticide application for lawns, weed control, trees and shrubs; maintenance of parking, roadways and walkways by repairing holes, crack repair and lining, as well as snow and ice removal; plant, care and prune plants, trees and shrubs; assignment of work and overseeing student worker activities. Assists in maintaining safe athletic fields through proper grass cutting, divot repair, overseeding, sodding, aeration, topdressing, and irrigation when conditions require. 

The approved salary for this position is $18.00/hourly.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a high school degree and college or technical training preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Mechanical aptitude is necessary for this position.  Candidates must be able to be courteous, friendly and informative to students, faculty, staff and visitors as well as develop good public relations on campus. Hours may vary during particular times of the year, so applicants must have a flexible schedule. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate cultural competence and must value the principles of diversity and equity.
