Job Description - Assistant Head of Schools

 Deputy Head of Schools (Operations-Focused)



St. Louis Voices Academy of Media Arts
Full-Time | On-Site | Starting Salary: $70,000 | Benefits Eligible



School Overview
St. Louis Voices Academy of Media Arts is an innovative public charter school serving students and families in St. Louis City. The school will grow to serve grades K–5, grounded in a mission to leverage media arts and storytelling to equip students with the agency to excel academically and make meaningful contributions to their communities.



Position Overview
The Deputy Head of Schools is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring the efficient, compliant, and high-functioning operation of the school, while also supporting instructional leadership and stepping into the Head of Schools role when needed.
This role is 90% operations-focused and 10% instructional/culture support, with full authority to act as Head of Schools in their absence.
The Deputy Head of Schools ensures that all operational systems are aligned to support strong instruction, a positive school culture, and organizational sustainability.



Core Responsibilities
Operations Leadership (Primary – 90%)
Lead all aspects of school operations including scheduling, compliance, HR systems, payroll coordination, and facilities
Ensure compliance with DESE, charter requirements, and applicable laws
Oversee student systems (attendance, enrollment, records, reporting)
Manage vendors, contracts, and operational budgets
Supervise and coach operations and office staff
Build systems that maximize instructional time and organizational efficiency



Instructional & Culture Support (10%)
Support school-wide culture, routines, and behavioral systems
Align operations with instructional priorities
Participate in leadership planning and problem-solving
Acting Head of Schools (As Needed)
Assume full leadership when HOS is out
Maintain school operations, culture, and communication
Address urgent staff, student, and family matters

Who This Role Is NOT For
This role may not be a good fit for candidates who:
Are primarily interested in instructional coaching or curriculum leadership roles
Prefer to spend the majority of their time in classrooms rather than managing systems
Struggle with logistics, compliance, or operational detail
Prefer highly predictable work environments with limited urgency or shifting priorities
Are uncomfortable making decisions that impact staffing, compliance, or school-wide systems
Want a role that is primarily visionary without execution responsibility



Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred)
3–5+ years of experience in operations, administration, or school leadership
Strong experience managing systems (HR, scheduling, compliance, or operations)



Preferred
Experience in charter schools or urban education
Exposure to instructional leadership or teaching experience
Familiarity with DESE or similar regulatory environments

Principal Certification (or eligible)
