The Assistant Manager of Bus Transportation will assist with the planning, organization, and supervision of transportation operations. Assists with the supervision of personnel and ensures that scheduled services operate efficiently.
Essential Job Functions:

Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills essential to Job Functions:
Comprehensive knowledge of labor agreement. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of transportation operations. Comprehensive knowledge and the ability to dispatch (RCC or Window dispatch) and provide street supervision if needed. Knowledge of the payroll process and be able to approve if needed. Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of subordinates. Ability to interact effectively with management and union officials. Ability to evaluate program effectiveness and to develop corrective programs and plans. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and understand views and concerns of others.
Required Software Knowledge and Skills essential to Job Functions:
Proficient in Transit Master (CAD/AVL) Radio System, HASTUS and Peoplesoft HR/Payroll module is required. Proficiency in using computer systems and the listed software applications associated with performance of assigned work is essential. Basic problem-solving skills associated with software applications used is expected. Software usage relevant to job duties will be evaluated.

MS Windows, Word and Outlook; Transit Master (CAD/AVL); HASTUS
Safety Responsibility:
Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect one’s self, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Ensure all employees and contractors are properly trained and understand all rules, safety policies, and procedures to perform their work functions safely. Promote safety awareness by attending safety committee meetings and adhering to all safety procedures and policies. Actively conduct workplace hazard analyses for all employees to maintain a safe work environment. Encourage employee safety reporting program and communication of hazards to the Safety Department. Responsible for the timely mitigation of all unacceptable and undesirable safety risks. Accountable for safety performance within their functional area and achieving the agency’s safety goals.
Training and/or Education:
Completion of four years of college with courses in management and transportation planning or combination of college and experience.
Required Experience:
Three years of experience in transportation supervision.
Licenses or Certificates:
Must have CDL Class B license and/or CDL permit and the ability to acquire within sixty (60) days of employment a valid Virginia CDL Class B license with air brake and passenger endorsements.

Unusual Demands:
This is a 24 hours per day/7 day per week operation. Hours do include holidays, and/or weekends. Includes working weekends, nights and overnight shifts. Includes working holidays and shifts up to 10 hours or longer during emergencies. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
