Full-time

Description

Join Us in Serving Those Who Served!

At Durham Exchange Club Industries (DECI), our mission is both simple and powerful: to open doors of opportunity for individuals with disabilities. We are committed to helping people with vocational disabilities discover their strengths, build self-worth, and achieve their full potential through meaningful work and competitive wages. Every day, we bring this mission to life by serving our nation’s veterans with dignity, compassion, and care.

We’re seeking a dynamic, people-focused leader to oversee our Patient Escort Services program at the Durham VA Medical Center. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-energy environment and is motivated by making a tangible difference every day.

Why This Role Matters

In this position, you’ll play a key role in ensuring veterans receive timely, respectful assistance throughout the medical center - while also supporting a diverse workforce, including individuals with disabilities, in achieving success and independence.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a team of 35 staff, including escorts, dispatchers, and shift leads.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficient patient transport and service delivery.
  • Partner with VA staff and internal leadership to maintain strong working relationships.
  • Coach, mentor, and support employees to meet both performance and personal development goals.
  • Ensure contract compliance, quality standards, and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage scheduling, reporting, and administrative responsibilities.
  • Respond to real-time challenges and keep operations running smoothly.

What Success Looks Like

  • A well-coordinated, fully staffed program meeting daily service demands.
  • High satisfaction from veterans, VA partners, and staff
  • A supportive team environment where employees are engaged and growing.
  • Consistent compliance with contract and quality expectations

What It’s Like to Work Here

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll spend time both on the floor and managing behind the scenes.

  • Fast-paced and active - you’ll be moving, problem-solving, and leading in real time.
  • People-centered - you’ll work with a wide range of personalities and backgrounds.
  • Purpose-driven - every day is an opportunity to give back.

Schedule & Additional Details

  • Primarily day shift (Monday–Friday/6:00am - 2:00pm)
  • Rotating on-call schedule (approximately one week every 3 weeks)
  • Occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays may be required.
  • VA background check required.

No two days are the same, and your ability to adapt, prioritize, and lead with empathy will make all the difference.

 Who Thrives Here

  • Leaders who are firm, fair, and supportive
  • Individuals who enjoy being engaged, active, and hands-on
  • Professionals who stay calm under pressure and embrace challenges.
  • People who are enthusiastic about mission-driven work

Requirements

What You Bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience
  • Strong communication, organization, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment.
  • Commitment to serving veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Preferred

  • Experience in healthcare, social services, logistics, or vocational rehabilitation
  • Familiarity with performance metrics, compliance, or contract-based work

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Computer Skills: Good computer skills with Microsoft Word and familiarity with Microsoft Access needed

Other Requirements: U.S. Citizen or U.S. work qualification
