Our client, a leader in the logistics and transportation sector, is looking for a highly experienced and motivated Assistant Operations Manager â Fuel Transport to lead and coordinate all aspects of fuel transportation operations within Tanzania and across neighboring countries (e.g., Uganda, Zambia, DRC, Rwanda, Burundi). This role requires strong leadership, deep knowledge of regional logistics and compliance, and the ability to manage cross-border challenges while maintaining operational efficiency and safety.
Responsibilities:
Oversee daily operations of local and cross-border fuel transportation.
Manage the dispatching, routing, and scheduling of deliveries to ensure timely and accurate fuel distribution.
Coordinate with customs, border control, and relevant authorities for cross-border compliance.
Monitor fleet performance and delivery KPIS for both local and regional routes.
Optimize fleet utilization to reduce fuel consumption and increase turnaround efficiency.
Supervise GPS and telematics systems to track vehicle movement and fuel usage.
Ensure strict adherence to Tanzanian and regional transport regulations, fuel handling standards, and environmental laws.
Implement and oversee safety procedures, driver training, and emergency response measures.
Ensure compliance with customs documentation, cross-border transport permits, and related regulatory requirements.
Lead and mentor a team of drivers, tracking team and loading and offloading supervisors.
Conduct staff evaluations, training, and succession planning.
Foster a culture of accountability, performance, and safety within the team.
Develop and manage the transport departmentâs budget and cost controls.
Analyze logistics data and prepare reports for senior leadership.
Identify process improvement and cost reduction opportunities.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Transport Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 7â10 years' experience in fuel transportation/logistics, with at least 5 years in cross-border operations in East/Central/Southern Africa.
Strong understanding of regional road networks, border processes, and fuel logistics.
Experience managing large fleets and logistics teams.
Good skills in preparing and analyzing reports in Excel.
Familiarity with fleet management software, GPS tracking, and transport compliance systems.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Fluent in English and Swahili. French-speaking is advantageous.
Valid driverâs license and willing to travel frequently across the region.
