Assistant Plant Manager

We are growing, and this is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on manufacturing leader to join our Phoenix facility during a key stage of expansion. The Assistant Plant Manager will play an important role in supporting daily plant operations, developing strong production practices, and helping build the foundation for continued growth.
What You’ll Do
The Assistant Plant Manager will support the daily operations of the Phoenix manufacturing facility to ensure production schedules, safety standards, quality expectations, and customer commitments are met. This role will work closely with the Plant Manager and cross-functional leaders to keep production moving, resolve operational challenges, and drive accountability across the facility.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support daily manufacturing operations, including production scheduling, staffing coordination, workflow, labor allocation, and follow-up on production priorities.
- Maintain an active presence on the production floor to support supervisors, production employees, and front-line leaders.
- Help identify and resolve production issues, equipment concerns, bottlenecks, staffing gaps, material shortages, and process challenges.
- Partner with Production Managers, Supervisors, Shipping, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Human Resources, and other support teams to resolve operational needs.
- Monitor daily production activity to ensure work is completed on time and in alignment with customer requirements, quality standards, and operating procedures.
- Track and support key production metrics, including output, efficiency, attendance, scrap, rework, safety items, quality concerns, and schedule adherence.
- Reinforce company safety policies, safe work practices, and expectations across the plant.
- Support quality initiatives by partnering with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to reduce defects and address customer concerns.
- Participate in customer-facing discussions to better understand expectations and help ensure Coilmaster products meet customer needs.
- Support Lean manufacturing, 5S, waste reduction, standard work, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with onboarding, training, cross-training, and skills development for production employees.
- Support consistent application of attendance, conduct, safety, and performance expectations.
- Serve as backup support to the Plant Manager as needed, including operational decisions, employee communication, production follow-up, and meeting participation.
What You’ll Need
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Prior leadership experience in manufacturing, production supervision, operations, or a team lead capacity.
- Strong understanding of production flow, safety practices, quality standards, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience supporting production schedules, labor planning, employee accountability, and operational problem solving.
- Ability to lead employees on the production floor with professionalism, consistency, and fairness.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with hourly employees, supervisors, managers, customers, and cross-functional teams.
- Intermediate Excel skills, including the ability to work with pivot tables/charts, VLOOKUPs, and basic reporting.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read and understand production schedules, work instructions, quality requirements, operational reports, and basic drawings.
- Ability to work full-time onsite in a manufacturing plant environment.
What Will Set You Apart
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Business, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in HVAC, heat transfer, coil manufacturing, metal fabrication, assembly, brazing, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a small-to-mid-sized manufacturing plant where leaders are expected to be hands-on.
- Experience with ERP, timekeeping, production tracking, or manufacturing systems.
- Basic understanding of Lean manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement, or similar process improvement methods.
- Lean, Six Sigma, OSHA, or front-line leadership training.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills.
- Experience working with a multilingual workforce.
- A polished, professional communication style and genuine excitement for working in a manufacturing environment.
