Job Description - Assistant Principal

Description

Avondale House is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency that provides, educational services to individuals with autism, a day program for adults, where clients receive training in daily living skills and pre-vocational activities, employment services for those with disabilities and three residential homes for individuals unable to live in their own home.  Avondale House has been serving individuals with autism since 1976.

The Assistant Principal will support the Principal in overseeing the daily operations of the school. This role provides instructional leadership, promotes a safe and positive learning environment, and ensures the effective implementation of school policies and procedures. The Assistant Principal plays a vital role in supporting teachers and staff, monitoring student progress, and fostering a culture of academic excellence and positive behavior. Responsibilities also include involvement in student activities, support services, and the coordination of behavior intervention programs.

Job Duties:

· Participates in development and evaluation of education programs.

· Encourages and supports development of innovative instructional programs.

· Promotes the use of technology in teaching/learning process.

· Ensures school policies and procedures are carried out with fidelity.

· Coordinates daily class coverage/schedules. 

· Participates in the arrival and dismissal process.

· Serves on the school’s crisis team.

· Monitors IEP, attendance and progress report/report card data collection.

· Uses appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

· Attends ARDs as needed.

· Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

· Special Education Teacher certification required.

· Principal/Mid-Management and/or BCBA certifications preferred.

· Experience with students with behavioral challenges, Applied Behavior Analysis and de-escalation preferred.

· Ability to demonstrate Avondale House core values: Commitment, Achievement, Respect, Integrity, Nurturing, Growth.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to implement Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.

· Lifting up to 50 lbs.

· Ability to stand on your feet for 2-3 hours at a time.
