Job Description - Assistant Principal- Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School


Employment Status: Full-time

FLSA Status: Exempt/Salary

Reports to: Principal

Summary:

The Assistant Principal fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by working with the Principal in the management of the school, faculty, staff, and students with major emphasis on curriculum and instruction, as well as student discipline.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Supports and assists with the responsibilities of the principal
  • Serves as the principal in the principal’s absence
  • Assists in the general administration of the school
  • Supports the communication, training, and supervision of the faculty and staff
  • Assists in planning for staff development, curriculum, educational textbooks and materials, and student testing
  • Maintains documentation of instructional planning
  • Carries out the disciplinary policies of the school
  • Interprets and enforces school policies
  • Assists with designing the master schedule
  • Assists with faculty and other meetings
  • Provides direct supervision of school sponsored activities
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, and other professionals
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.   
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
  • Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning
  • Monitors students regarding tardiness, absences, and those on academic probation
  • Oversees faculty and staff committees, as assigned
  • Observes and evaluates instruction and provides constructive feedback on performance
  • Supports the preparation of handbooks
  • Supports the referral process for student evaluation within the public school system
  • Supervises teachers and other staff or volunteers assigned by the Principal 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • A Master’s degree, or participating in a Master’s degree program, and 18 credit hours in educational administration and supervision courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate for a principal, as outlined in the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards.

*Preferred administration/supervision coursework includes curriculum, legal issues in non-public schools, finance, strategic planning, facility management, cultural competency, special education, supervision of personnel, and assessment.

Experience

  • Three years of experience as a classroom teacher

License and Credentials

  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

  • Commitment to ongoing formation in catechetical and spiritual leadership development
  • Thorough understanding of school operations 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to coordinate campus support operations Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction 
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness 
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel 
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions 
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures Ability to interpret data 
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Knowledge of curriculum, instructional methods/strategies, and curriculum differentiation
  • Knowledge of child development, learning and behavior
  • Able to manage student behavior
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Able to work well with others in a school community
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Skill in job appropriate technology
  • Skill in critical thinking and planning

Travel Requirements:

  • Required to work some nights and weekends
  • Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
  • Required to work a minimum a full school day
  • Required to work in standard office and school conditions
