The Department of Risk and Insurance at the Wisconsin School of Business invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2027. Current actuarial faculty conduct research broadly in insurance and risk analytics, or in the economics of financial and insurance risks. We seek scholars whose research will complement these areas and create synergies with the current faculty research agenda. We also seek candidates with strong technical expertise who are able to teach preliminary actuarial exam material of either the Society of Actuaries (SOA) or the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS). Professional actuarial credentials from either society are preferred. While not a requirement for the position, we also welcome applications from faculty who could connect with the Wisconsin RISE Initiative under the RISE-AI or RISE-Earth program -- description of these programs can be found here: https://rise.wisc.edu/
The Risk and Insurance Department at the University of Wisconsin–Madison is one of the oldest such programs in the country, dating back to the 1930s. We offer undergraduate majors in Actuarial Science and Risk Management and Insurance, both of which are consistently ranked among the best programs in the world. We also offer a PhD program in Insurance Economics & Actuarial Analytics and a Capstone Certificate Program in Actuarial Science designed for post-undergraduate students.
Our faculty also teach and play important roles in the Wisconsin School of Business analytics programs, including the Master of Science in Business Analytics, the online Master of Science in Data, Insights, and Analytics, and the school’s Full-Time and Professional MBA programs.
The department is part of a major research university with extensive resources available to faculty and students. While our faculty are united by interests related to risk and insurance, they come from a range of disciplinary backgrounds and maintain strong connections and collaborations across campus, including with faculty in economics, engineering, public policy, population health, computing & AI, and statistics.
