Position Summary
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) plays a critical role in supporting the successful planning and execution of construction projects. In partnership with the Project Manager and Superintendent, the APM oversees documentation, procurement, budgeting, schedule adherence, and quality control. This role is ideal for a dynamic builder with strong attention to detail, leadership capabilities, and a passion for continuous learning.
Key Responsibilities
• Review contracts, assess risk, and communicate key areas of exposure to the project team.
• Lead the bid process by developing detailed instructions to bidders, ensuring scope coverage, accuracy, and appropriate risk mitigation.
• Support subcontractor buyout and selection processes, including subcontract execution and issue resolution.
• Assemble and manage the project control estimate.
• Manage all aspects of construction management, including:
• Preconstruction
• Scheduling
• Procurement
• Submittals
• RFIs
• Change orders
• Budgeting
• Forecasting
• Billing
• Project closeout
• Ensure project permits, inspections, and tests are accurately identified and scheduled.
• Own the project procurement plan and procurement log, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
• Foster effective relationships with clients and design teams through consistent communication and leadership during Owner/Architect/Contractor (OAC) meetings and site walks.
• Maintain document control accuracy and timeliness.
• Leverage internal resources including VDC, Lean practices, SPW, XL Shop, and other tools to drive project and team effectiveness.
• Train and mentor Project Engineers, Project Administrators, and Project Accountants.
• Promote and model XLI's core values, safety culture, and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of construction experience, preferably as a Senior Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager.
• Experience working on healthcare, education, life sciences, civic, or commercial office projects.
• Demonstrated experience managing or assisting with small projects.
• Proficiency with:
• Microsoft Office

• Primavera P6
• Timberline
• Vista
• Solid understanding of:
• MEP trades
• Scheduling
• Permit processes
• OSHA 10 Certification.
• Ability to build trust across project stakeholders and internal teams.

Compensation
In accordance with California's Pay Transparency Laws (SB 1162), XLI is committed to fair and equitable compensation.
• Base Salary Range: $101,440 – $126,800 annually
• Eligible for annual performance bonus program
• Eligible for vehicle reimbursement
Compensation will be determined based on experience, education, qualifications, and internal equity.
