Job Description - Assistant Racquets Professional

Description

The Assistant Racquets Professional at Bellerive Country Club (“Bellerive”) plays a key role in supporting the Director of Racquets and the Racquets Professional in overseeing all racquet sports operations, including Tennis, Paddle Tennis, and Pickleball. The Assistant Racquets Professional will help manage facilities, coordinate programming, and ensure an exceptional experience for Members through top-tier instruction and outstanding service.

Core Four Competencies:

  • Providing high-quality lessons and coaching for racquet sports, creating engaging clinics, and managing adult and junior programming.
  • Delivering exceptional service, promoting events, and fostering a strong sense of community with Bellerive.
  • Planning, executing, and overseeing racquet sports events, managing scheduling, and ensuring smooth operations.
  • Ensuring the racquet complex is well-maintained, supervising staff, and coordinating with the Golf Course and Grounds Maintenance Department to uphold high standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Deliver private lessons and group clinics focused on enhancing racquet sports techniques and strategies for Members and guests, ensuring a personalized and professional experience. 
  • Assist in coaching and providing instruction for all adult programming, leagues, and team activities, fostering a positive and supportive environment for players. 
  • Engage actively in every clinic, creating a high-energy, educational, and enjoyable atmosphere to maximize the learning experience for all participants. 
  • Promote upcoming programs and events through proactive communication, including phone calls, emails, and in-person interactions, ensuring strong Member engagement. 
  • Provide exceptional service to all Members and guests, offering prompt, courteous, and professional assistance for any racquet sports-related needs. 
  • Take leadership in junior activities when the Director of Racquets is unavailable, ensuring smooth operation and continued program success. 
  • Be present and available for organized activities, social gatherings, and racquet-related functions to foster a strong community within the club. 
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of Tennis, Paddle Tennis, and Pickleball events and activities, contributing to a memorable and seamless member experience. 
  • Oversee scheduled events to ensure smooth execution, providing a professional and high-quality experience for all members and participants. 
  • Manage court reservations and lesson appointments with efficiency, ensuring a smooth scheduling process for members. 
  • Enforce racquet sports policies and uphold Bellerive’s regulations to maintain a professional and respectful playing environment. 
  • Maintain teaching equipment in excellent condition, ensuring it is clean, functional, and ready for use to support an optimal learning experience. 
  • Supervise junior staff, including Tennis Pro Shop Attendants and teaching professionals, to ensure adherence to service and instructional standards. 
  • Regularly inspect and refresh teaching equipment, including removing dead balls from baskets to maintain a high-quality environment for play. 
  • Ensure all courts are equipped with water and towels as needed, offering members the highest level of comfort and service. 
  • Assist in overseeing the maintenance and grooming of the racquet complex, ensuring facilities are in top condition. 
  • Ensure proper maintenance of clay tennis courts after use, including grooming and preparing them for the next session. 
  • Monitor court conditions and adjust maintenance routines as necessary based on weather and environmental factors to ensure optimal play conditions. 
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all physical areas, swiftly addressing any issues with the Racquets or Grounds staff to uphold Bellerive’s standards. 
  • Report maintenance concerns immediately to the appropriate staff to ensure timely resolution and continued excellence in facility upkeep. 
  • Attend staff meetings contributing to team discussions and operational improvements. 
  • Process billing accurately for lessons, clinics, and racquet shop merchandise, ensuring a smooth and transparent transaction process for Members. 
  • Manage the ForeTees system efficiently, including entering class details, updating programming, and scheduling clinics and events, ensuring accurate court chart management.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the Director of Racquets or other members of Bellerive’s leadership team.

Requirements

  • Must possess a basic knowledge of court maintenance.
  • Must have the ability to keep current with research in tennis teaching systems and programming trends.
  • Must have the ability to balance multiple projects and have strong project and time management skills. Must possess high attention to detail.
  • Must display an aptitude for working in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to work autonomously, take direction, and exercise good judgment. Must have the ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered.
  • Must have a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills in order to communicate and work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence. Must use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate fluent English; compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
  • Ability to simultaneously process routine daily functions, resolve sensitive issues, and complete complex assignments utilizing above-average critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to travel as required/necessary.
  • The physical demands of this position are representative of those that might be met by an employee for them to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the workday and having the ability to transport fifty (50) pounds.

Qualifications / Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or Sports Management required.
  • USPTA/PTR certification required. Pickleball certification is preferred.
  • Two to three (2-3) years of competitive playing experience and/or Tennis supervisory experience preferred.
  • Platform Tennis and Pickleball certification preferred.
  • Prior retail sales experience in sporting goods preferred.
