Description The Assistant Recreation Director shall be responsible for parks and playgrounds, athletic programs, and other leisure-time and cultural activities of the City. Assists the Recreation director in maintain and smooth operation of the Parks and programs.
Examples of Duties Plans and develops the City's recreation programs in order to ensure that activities and events are relevant and made available for all community members.
Monitors, directs. and evaluates the daily performance activities of department personnel.
Inspects recreational facilities and reports on needed repairs to the appropriate City personnel.
Oversees and prepares the annual budgets for the Recreation Department, programs, and special events.
Serves as liaison between Chappapeela Sports Park, various sports leagues and commissioners, and other City personnel.
Maintains an effective public relations program and develops constructive relationships with Southeastern Louisiana University, Chappapeela Sports Park, and other City and voluntary organizations.
Responsible for inventory' and maintenance of recreation equipment and various programs.
Schedules safety and other required training for volunteers and personnel.
Maintains accurate records for all recreation programs including but not limited to birth certificates, sponsorships, registration fees. and payments to vendors.
Researches sport and recreation programs, trends, funding sources, and project requirements.
Keeps records of department as required.
Maintains ongoing contact with staff to establish accountability and develop goals for use in performance evaluations.
Performs such other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Ability to plan, assign and direct the work of subordinate employees. Knowledge of office administration and budgeting procedures. Able to work flexible days and hours including weekends.
Acceptable Training and Experience: At the time of appointment, a bachelor's degree in recreation and/or parks administration from an accredited college or university and at least one (1) year experience in a responsible recreation or parks management position; OR A bachelor's degree in health and physical education or related field from an accredited college or university and at least three (3) years' experience in a responsible recreation or parks management position; OR At least five (5) years' experience in a responsible recreation or parks management position.
Certificates and License: Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license with a good driving record,
