  • Responsible for onboarding and training of Transportation Employees.
  • Perform all other duties as may be prescribed by the Assistant Chief Transportation Officer and Road Foreman of Engines.

Position Requirements:   The following minimum requirements must be met to be considered for selection for an interview:
21 years of age or older.
•    High school diploma or GED is required; associate or bachelor’s degree with relevant major is strongly preferred but not required.
•    Certified and licensed NICTD or CSS locomotive engineer in good standing with a minimum of 5 years’ operating experience on NICTD.
•    Excellent organizational and communication skills.
•    Self-motivated and interested in motivating others to adopt proper safety and operationally focused work habits.
•    Superior safety, attendance, and work service records.
•    Able to accurately input data into computer systems, including Microsoft Office Suite.  Able to write objective, fact-based memos and reports.
•    Knowledgeable of relevant Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) relating to railroad and locomotive engineer obligations.
•    An expressed interest in the continuance of adopting new practices.
•    Able to multi-task among competing and changing priorities while maintaining a pleasant disposition.  Superior communication and listening skills.
•    Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.  Reliable transportation to and from Michigan City, Indiana, in all types of weather.
•    Willing to work indoors and outdoors, varied shift hours, occasionally varied days off, weekends, and holidays if operationally necessary.
Competent, comfortable, and keenly interested in computer hardware and software relating to their duties and the Transportation Department.
Able to climb on and under rail cars and locomotives.

Selection is also subject to satisfactory results from a post-offer physical examination (including drug and alcohol screening tests) and a post-offer background evaluation (including criminal and trust-related criteria).

Schedule: The Assistant Road Foreman of Engines will have hours and days off assigned by the Assistant Chief Transportation Officer.  Schedules and assignments are subject to change based on the needs of the service and managerial staffing requirements. The successful applicant must expect off-duty calls from other managers and employees to respond to situational emergencies.
