Job Description - Assistant Site Manager

Position Title:                   Assistant Site Manager


Accountability:                Construction Site Manager


Classification:                   Full Time (40 hrs/wk) hourly, Non-Exempt


Hourly Wage:                   $27.00 / hr.



JOB SUMMARY



This position is an important part of construction operations in our New Construction department. Responsibilities vary widely as needed and, under the direction of the Construction Site Manager (CSM), include general construction work, landscaping and lawn care, supervision of volunteers, and coordination of the flow of material, equipment, and subcontractors on Habitat for Humanity home construction sites.

HOME CONSTRUCTION




  1. Assist CSM to manage construction site operations including:

    1. Building new homes through all phases of construction from foundations and framing, through finish carpentry, landscaping and close out.

    2. Volunteer activities – provide volunteer training and support services to ensure an exceptional volunteer experience

    3. Resource management – ensure Habitat tools, materials, and equipment are used safely and effectively

    4. Interface with homebuyers – facilitate homebuyer involvement in the construction process. Report any homebuyer-related issues to the CSM or Construction Project Manager.

    5. Ensure a safe working environment – promote and follow best safety practices on job site

    6. Secure the site at the end of the work day – tools and materials cleaned up and secured, containers and gates are locked





  1. Participate in weekly team meetings

  2. Perform warranty repairs as assigned


 


PROJECT COORDINATION




  1. Building Code Compliance

    1. In coordination with the CSM, ensure all work is executed in accordance with the IRC, IBC & WSEC as well as local jurisdiction standards

    2. Prepare for inspections and coordinate task completion reviews with Site Manager or Project Manager.



  2. Materials

    1. Ensure materials are utilized as efficiently as possible

    2. Confirm deliveries and ensure material is as ordered.



  3. Sub-Contractors

    1. Communicate with subcontractors on site as necessary and coordinate work flow





EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE



At least one year of construction experience or comparable education.




REQUIREMENTS




  • Candidate will be expected to have Competent Person certification or the ability to obtain (at affiliate expense) within the first year on the job

  • Desire to learn how to read and interpret construction plans, structural engineering plans and documents

  • Interest and ability to familiarize oneself with construction math

  • High degree of organization and time management skills required

  • Capacity to focus on multiple projects simultaneously and work collaboratively

  • Motivation to be self-directed; interest and ability to work with both skilled and unskilled volunteers

  • Availability to work a Tuesday – Saturday schedule with occasional after hours work

  • Ability to lead and manage groups of up to 20 people of diverse backgrounds, some with limited English language proficiency

  • Experience with public speaking, training, and meeting facilitation preferred

  • Experience with diverse ethnic and faith communities preferred

  • Fluency in a second language such as Spanish, Vietnamese, or Russian is desirable

  • Previous work experience with non-profit organizations desirable

  • Interest and ability to familiarize oneself and become proficient in various phases of construction

  • Ability to drive a pickup truck towing a small trailer.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms as well as talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is regularly required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must have the ability to operate power tools, construction equipment, and perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying and climbing, and lift and /or move up to 60 pounds and traverse uneven terrain as found on an active construction site.

Approximately 95% of time will be spent on an active construction site with the remaining 5% or less in an office environment.
