Job Description - Assistant Site Superintendent

OBJECTIVE

An organized Assistant Site Superintendent who supports commercial and residential construction projects while assisting the superintendent with managing the on-site construction team, safety, quality and ensures projects are delivered successfully and on time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

50% — Core Field Operations & Project Coordination

  • Assist with day-to-day field operations while meeting safety, quality, and schedule goals
  • Follow strict project schedules; coordinate closely with Site Superintendent
  • Assist with coordinating contractors, subcontractors, and labor forces to ensure compliance with plans/standards
  • Assist with scheduling equipment, materials, and labor; support efficient production
  • Communicate regular project progress to Site Superintendent
  • Maintain clean project sites and work areas

25% — Safety, Quality Control & Compliance

  • Assist site superintendent with OSHA safety policies and safety meetings
  • Assist with inspections; maintain and manage quality of work
  • Assist with final punch list and project closeout
  • Support with necessary paperwork: inventory, daily logs, site reports, inspections, etc.

15% — Meetings & Interdepartmental Communication

  • Participate in weekly superintendent and Construction Department meetings
  • Provide timely communication with internal departments (Accounting, Maintenance, HR, etc.)

10% — Hands-on Support & Miscellaneous Tasks

  • Assist carpenters, siders, site superintendents, and other tradespeople
  • Handle and transport materials
  • Use of power tools; measuring and cutting materials
  • Occasional lift operations
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education and Experience

Required:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent is required
  • Must have valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to and from the job site
  • OSHA 30 certification or the ability to obtain one in 90 days
  • Understanding of all building codes and resources to ensure all codes are met
  • Good planning skills, including design execution, resource allocation and contingencies
  • Understanding of construction equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues
  • Advanced understanding of plans and specifications
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications
  • Possess the ability to read and understand blueprints
  • Knowledge of all aspects of the construction process
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, time management, and decision-making skills

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in Construction Management
  • Telehandler and/or Aerial/Boom lift certification
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • 3+ years of Construction experience
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal construction regulations

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, twisting/turning, crouching, crawling
  • Ability to climb, work on and carry a ladder
  • Comfortable working at various heights

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position involves working in all climates as well as multi-story buildings on an active construction site. This role routinely is exposed to dust and noise associated with saws and power tools. 

Special Requirements: This position requires regular travel (in and out of state as expansion occurs) with the ability to work 45 - 55 hours per week Monday – Friday, with occasional hours outside of that range as business necessitates. This position may require overnight stay near job sites regularly and/or travel between multiple job sites in the same day.
