Job Description - Assistant Store Manager

Summary:

The assistant manager is responsible for assisting the general manager in the completion of all duties related to the overall operation of the store, including sales generation and tracking, outstanding guest satisfaction, employee management and development, merchandising and inventory control. This role will support the preparation, setup, and successful launch of the new Tampa store opening. 

Duties / Essential Functions:

  • Have knowledge of and be able to complete and supervise all duties of a Sales Associate
  • Manage and meet sales goals for self and associates
  • Ensure customer service standards are met; resolve complex issues
  • Recruit, train, develop and communicate with all staff as well as assess performance on a regular basis
  • Track employee performance and provide coaching as necessary
  • Track customer satisfaction and implement remedies when needed
  • Assist with merchandising functions
  • Assist with inventory control, including verification of all shipments
  • Complete some administrative duties
  • Ensure security and maintenance of store
  • Fill cylinders and conduct inspections following company sponsored training
  • Provide compressor maintenance following company sponsored training
  • Be familiar with and complete all manager duties in his/her absence
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and practices
  • Other tasks as assigned by the General Manager or designee

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred
  • Three (3) years retail sales or related experience
  • Certified Scuba Diver or Dive Instructor highly desirable.  If not currently certified, must complete at least the academic requirements of a scuba course within the first 90 days of employment
  • Experience or strong interest in paddling, kayaking, freediving and other water sports highly desirable for product & activity knowledge
  • A combination of education, certifications, and work experience may be qualifying
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess strong visual and conceptual merchandising skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be willing and able to work in a collaborative setting with a diverse group of internal and external customers and vendors
  • Overall understanding of personal computer operation
  • Must be available to travel to and assist at other stores as needed
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule as dictated by retail needs

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires employee to work on his/her feet 100% of the time
  • Ability to bend and squat
  • Ability to lift/carry 40+ pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Ability to access all areas of the store
  • Ability to read, write, count, and do basic arithmetic
