Job Description - Assistant Store Manager

Assistant Store Manager - United Quality Cooperative

United Quality Cooperative is a locally owned cooperative that is dedicated to providing dependable service to our customers in the energy and production industry. As an Assistant Store Manager, you will play a crucial role in assisting the Store Manager with the direction, promotion, and coordination of convenience store operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • May hire, train and schedule new staff or assist management with this process effectively to meet operational needs.
  • Coordinates and oversees the day-to-day workflow of reporting staff in the department.
  • Supervise employees, establish and communicate department goals, plans, and performance expectations to employees, and provide ongoing support and feedback.
  • As requested by the Manager, conducts or assists with performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Nurture and support employee growth and development.
  • Assists the Manager with employment actions, including discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor departmental performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Manage daily operations to ensure timely project completion and customer satisfaction.
  • Review department performance regularly and take corrective action as needed.
  • Collaborate with other managers to analyze costs, benefits, and impacts on company profitability.
  • Draft, submit, and present various performance and management reports.
  • Manage inventory, approve or facilitate purchases, negotiate pricing contracts, and verify costs and receipts.
  • Price and market products strategically to maximize sales.
  • Address and resolve conflicts and customer or employee complaints within the department.
  • Submit operational reports to management as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 2 years of prior experience in a retail or convenience store environment.
  • Reading, writing, basic math and verbal communication skills required
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to assign and delegate tasks.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent leadership and customer service skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Working Conditions: Work is generally performed in a convenience store setting.

• This employee has direct and frequent contact with customers.

• Tasks are performed in all areas inside and outside of the store and can include exposure to extreme temperatures (both hot and cold), vapors, fumes, high humidity, and household chemicals for short periods routinely, with the possibility of longer periods.

• The noise level is generally moderate.

• Work can include long hours on all shifts, weekends and holidays, on-call availability.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

• Stand for an entire shift/extended period of time

• Walk

• Use hands and fingers to handle, and feel, reach with hands and arms

• Ability to talk and hear clearly

• Occasionally required to sit

• Bend, stoop, lift, shake, stir, pour, carry, push, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

• Must regularly lift and/or move 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

• Must be able to occasionally climb and descend ladders
