Description

Join our dedicated team at Community Progress Council, Inc. as an Assistant Teacher! You will assist the classroom Teacher in planning and implementing the Head Start curriculum while ensuring a safe and healthy environment for the children. Engage parents and volunteers in classroom activities and contribute to the development of our future leaders. Positions available throughout York County.

Together, we can create a nurturing and impactful learning environment for young minds throughout York County. At CPC, we emphasize integrated services to support both learners and their families. Beyond the staff in the classroom, CPC also provides Family Coaches, Positive Behavior Intervention Support, Instructional Support, and Health & Nutrition Education Specialists to help establish clear boundaries, effective behavior modification techniques, and ensure that play and creative activities are central to the children's learning experience.


Requirements

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Commit to the vision and mission of Head Start of York County and Community Progress Council, Inc.

· Collaborate with the Teacher and parents to plan and prepare developmentally appropriate learning activities.

· Maintain a clean, safe, and positive classroom environment that promotes respect, active learning, and cultural responsibility.

· Assist in preparing classroom materials and adapting learning centers to meet individual and group needs.

· Support the Teacher in conducting parent conferences and home visits, and in developing individual education plans (IPE) for each child.

· Help assess children's development and learning readiness and collaborate with parents and community agencies to meet special needs.

· Maintain required paperwork, including lesson plans, daily observations, and health checks.

· Promote the benefits of Head Start and early education to community organizations.

· Uphold confidentiality policies and serve as a role model for parents and community volunteers.

· Participate in agency task forces and work groups to support the Head Start vision and mission.

· Engage in professional development opportunities to grow in the field of early childhood education.

Education and Qualifications: 

· High school diploma or GED, plus one year of experience in a child development center (pre-school or elementary).

· Obtain CDA (Child Development Associate Certificate) within 2 years of hire (Head Start funding available).

· Successful completion of all required background checks, physical, and TB test.

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English. Bilingual Spanish, Haitian-Creole, or Arabic is highly desired; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Whenever possible, speak the client’s language to the best of your ability.

· Ability to develop effective working relationships with diverse individuals.

· Basic knowledge of child development and behavior management.

· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

· Demonstrate good customer service and communication skills.
