Position Overview: As an Assistant Team Leader/Assistant Project Engineer, you will play a crucial role in managing the State-mandated inspection of bridges and tunnels. This position, based in Manhattan, NY, involves a 1-year assignment (2080 hours), under the general direction of the Vice President, Deputy Program Executive, Program Technical Services.
Responsibilities:- Compliance: Ensure compliance with NYSDOT and Federal Highway Administration Bridges and Tunnels Inspection Mandates.
- Inspections: Participate in Biennial Bridge and Tunnel Inspections, overseeing Consultants' field activities.
- Project Management: Assist in managing the Authority's bridges and tunnels inspection programs, ensuring quality, safety, and on-time, within-budget completion.
- Accuracy: Ensure accuracy of inspection findings and review NYSDOT mandated reports before submission.
- Support: Provide as-needed support to all facilities and assist in managing Capital and Major Maintenance projects.
- Safety: Assure compliance with contract and regulatory safety requirements on project sites.
Qualifications:- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Construction Engineering, or Architecture.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of practical involvement in inspections and/or construction of Bridges and Tunnels; master’s degree in Engineering or Architecture may substitute for 1 year experience.
- Engineering Knowledge: Demonstrated engineering knowledge in planning, design development, construction, scheduling, management, and inspection.
- Regulatory Familiarity: Knowledge of NYSDOT Bridge Inspection Manual, AASHTO Element Bridge Inspection System, National Tunnel Inspection Standards, and Specifications for the National Tunnel Inventory.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Project Management Skills: Experience in developing contract documents, RFP preparation, field oversight, safety enforcement, and participation in project meetings.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in Excel, Word, Bluebeam, Access, PowerPoint, and other productivity and presentation software.
- Safety Certification: Completion of Occupational Safety and Health Administration 30 Safety.
- Driver's License: Valid driver’s license.
- Training: Completion of NYSDOT or National Highway Institute Bridges and Tunnels Inspection Training is preferred.
