Assistant Turf Manager

To assist in maintaining immaculate sports fields at UTSA.

You spent your childhood summers on baseball fields, your fall Friday nights under stadium lights, and your winters on hard courts. You are meticulous. Others see perfection when they look at your fields, but all you see is the almost-imperceptible divot in center field from the previous night’s diving catch. We love sports fields. How much?  As much as Texas loves its high school football.  That's a lot.  We know that the difference between feeling like a professional athlete and a high school walk-on is often the quality of the playing surface. We love nothing more than the glimmer of stadium lights on a freshly-cut, pristine natural grass playing surface. Finally, we believe that great people transform businesses. We provide a vision and then ask our people to creatively use their talents to achieve it.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Prepare, maintain and restore grounds within the assigned field as directed, including any and all activities or tasks fundamental to baseball/softball/track & field/soccer/football field care. 


2. Monitor, report, and resolve irrigation issues, problems and/or concerns on assigned fields or complexes.


3. Communicate with coaching staff regarding practice/game schedules, camp dates, inclement weather situations and other needs.


4. Operate powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, sprayers and sod cutters.


5. Report/address field issues such as turf stress, disease, wear areas, etc. 


6. Perform general landscaping duties as assigned.


7. Work with other grounds staff as directed and perform other duties as assigned. 


8. Perform preventative maintenance operations on various pieces of equipment


9. Assist with tarp handling and inclement weather situations when customer deems necessary

REQUIREMENTS

If the description above resonates with you, we encourage you to apply. Ideally, candidates will have 2+ years of experience in groundskeeping and turfgrass management. A valid driver’s license is required.
