Our Commercial Lines State Management Organization is seeking a State Manager.
Overview/Summary:
The State Manager creates the state specific business strategy to take the CL base product structure to maximum profitability in one or more key strategic states. This position is responsible for returning better than industry performance through the development of product (pricing, underwriting appetite and product structure and enhancements) and distribution strategy under limited direction. Working directly with the distribution arm of the organization, the State Manager aggressively collaborates in the development, execution and monitoring of operating plans, including the areas of combined ratio, revenue growth, regulatory management, and legal compliance. Also, the State Manager is the primary relationship builder with state regulatory agencies and with trade associations. Lastly the State Manager is responsible for building winning strategies to address complex business issues such as maximizing the utilization of assigned risk markets.
This is a Full-time, Exempt role.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Strong CL product management and relationship capabilities.
Understanding of insurance rules and regulations, policy, product, and service requirements.
Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
Develop, implement, and manage operating plans for assigned states, including pricing and volume plans designed to meet or exceed Personal Lines objectives.
Deliver on P&L. Work closely with Marketing, Operations, Claims, Actuarial, Underwriting, ATS, and Legal to develop and implement state-specific strategies to meet or exceed margin and volume and to respond to market changes.
Monitor performance and communicate product information, pricing issues, underwriting philosophies, strategies, and financial results to team members.
Coordinate and facilitate communication across functions and state management team.
Maintain an in-depth knowledge of state markets and key competitors by product line.
Maintain a broad base of industry knowledge and current economic and business trends.
Cultivate external relationships to meet business objectives and strategic goals.
Develop and maintain formal relationships with state regulatory agencies and trade associations.
Weigh impact of industry and general economic trends; seize strategic and tactical opportunities, identify and counter threats for assigned areas of responsibility.
Required Skills, Key Competencies and Experience:
7-10 years insurance experience with demonstrated success in developing and managing a state management
Business Issue Identification, Analysis and Communication
Uses financial analytic principles, including forecasting/modeling, sales analytics, P/L statements, loss analytics, trend analysis, and root cause analysis to drive state strategy.
Effective communication (oral, written, listening) Maintains composure under stress by behaving flexibly, exhibiting self-confidence, and thriving in stressful situations
