This role requires a commitment to advancing the program’s trauma-informed, justice-centered mission through applied scholarship, university service, and the preparation of future social work practitioners and leaders.

This is a 9-month position

Essential Functions

Responsible for pedagogical excellence & curriculum development:

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in BSW, MSW, and DSW Programs utilizing rauma-infomed and neuroresponsive frameworks. This includes designing course syllabi, developing innovative online and in-person learning modules, and ensuring curriculum alignment with CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS).

Engage in applied scholarship and research:

  • Maintain an active agenda of research or applied scholarship that contributes to the advancement of social work practice, organizational leadership, or social work education. Associate-level candidates are expected to demonstrate a sustained record of peer-reviewed publications, grant-funded projects, or significant contributions to the field's body of knowledge.

Doctoral Mentorship & Capstone Advising:

  • Provide rigorous academic advisement and mentorship to DSW students, specifically serving as a Chair or Committee Member for DSW Capstone projects. This involves guiding students through the process of systematic inquiry, data analysis, and the translation of research into practice-based solutions.

Undergraduate or Graduate Advising and Mentorship:

  • Additionally, the position may need to provide academic advisement and mentorship to the BSW and/or MSW students.  Provides each student with academic support, opportunities to explore career options in the professional field of social work, and, through meaningful consultation and collaboration, further the professional and educational development of all students enrolled in all programs. The goal is to help facilitate the future success of each student. The purpose of academic advisement is to help orient students to the school, consult with students on course plans and various curricular options, approve course registration, assist students in course registrations, manage Exceptions to Policy requests, follow up and support students during leaves of absence, offer pre-consultation to students regarding specific academic challenges, track and consult with advisors and mentors on Core Performance issues, and arrange school-based appointments for specific areas of concern.

  • Academic advising is key to Social Work’s commitment to creating a student-centered learning environment while advancing knowledgeable and skilled practitioners into the field of social work. Quality advising requires planning, collaboration, evaluation, and decision-making in partnership with the advisee and fellow faculty, administration, and staff. The academic advisor is the first point of contact when performance issues arise in the classroom and/or in the practicum.

Professional and University Service:

  • Contribute to the governance and growth of the University and Social Work through active participation in faculty committees, accreditation self-studies, and program assessment. At the Associate level, this includes taking on leadership roles within these committees or professional organizations (e.g., CSWE, NASW, BPD).

Community Engagement and Advocacy:

  • Foster and maintain collaborative partnerships with local and global community agencies to support student practicums, collaborative research, and advocacy efforts. This function requires integrating anti-oppressive and justice-centered solutions into community-based projects to elevate human dignity and empower marginalized populations.

Professional Development and Licensure maintenance:

  • Maintain professional social work licensure (e.g., LCSW) and stay current with emerging trends in clinical practice, social policy, and neuro-responsive interventions. This ensures that teaching and scholarship remain grounded in current "real-world" practice realities and meet the post-MSW practice experience requirements for accreditation.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A Master's degree in MSW from a CSWE-accredited program is required. A PhD or DWS in Social Work is preferred.

  • 3-5 years of teaching experience in higher education.

  • Demonstrated competence in troubleshooting minor technical issues and ensuring effective delivery of instructional materials in both in-person and online settings

  • Exhibits advanced communication skills in both written and oral formats, including scholarly writing, teaching, presentations, and professional correspondence. Effectively conveys complex ideas to diverse audiences, including students, colleagues, and community stakeholders. Produces high-quality academic work suitable for publication and demonstrates strong interpersonal communication in collaborative and leadership roles.
