Status: Part-Time, 12 hours/week Salary Information:Assistant Professor: Annual Minimum Salary-$47,492.64-Annual Maximum Salary-$79,797.12Associate Professor: Annual Minimum Salary-$54,631.20-Annual Maximum Salary-$91,771.68Professor: Annual Minimum Salary-$62,818.08-Annual Maximum Salary-$105,537.12Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Pro-rated based on hours/week.

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) was founded as a 501(c) (3) non-profit health care education institution in 2005 aimed at increasing access to health care in medically underserved areas of the Pacific Northwest.

The University currently offers the degrees of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Dental Medicine, Master of Arts in Medical Science, and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy enrolling over 550 students annually with plans to develop other programs and/or colleges. Interprofessional education partnerships with other universities adds another 100 students to the population. The campus includes 300 employees with academic programming spread over a five-state region.

PNWU is located in Yakima, WA, a city of approximately 95,000 located in the south central part of the state near the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in a major agricultural and outdoor recreation region. General Summary:

The assistant/associate/professor will be assigned teaching responsibilities as a faculty member in the department. He/she will report to the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine. The faculty member is in a non-tenured position with a focus on teaching in the College of Osteopathic Medicine program.  This position participates and assists the Department Chair and colleagues in the development and implementation of curricula which integrate the medical specialties in team-based, large, and small group learning environments. Primary teaching assignments include clinical skills and decision making, and topics relevant to the practice of internal medicine. Typical responsibilities for this position primarily include classroom teaching for students in the second year of medical school. 

During the 30 days of the renal course, which is scheduled in July and August, the faculty is expected to be on campus , including open office hours for student inquiries each day on campus. The faculty will be personally responsible for no less than 26 hours of educational programming. In addition, the faculty will work with the co-course director to plan and review curriculum, assign lectures and assure their completion, and review and if necessary, adjust testing scores. Curriculum and lecture preparation should be accomplished, at least in part, prior to the 30 days of the course itself. 

Essential Functions:

• Continuously prepares and teaches assigned courses

• Student advisement/office hours

• Develops course syllabus

• Administration of examinations

• Clinical practice as appropriate

• Understands accreditation standards and expectations specific to the department and adheres to policies and procedures to meet or exceed such standards

• Conducts self appropriately and consistently in accordance with the philosophy and mission of PNWU

• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Professional degree (D.O., M.D.) from an accredited institution of higher education

• Completion of an internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship; currently board eligible or board certified in internal medicine, by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine or the American Board of Internal Medicine, and in Nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic Association. 

• Licensure in the state of Washington

• Current DEA certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• A team player who values collaboration, mutual support, and team cohesion

• Knowledge of instructional technologies

• Experience with curricular and instructional design, and training or experience in educational theory and/or evaluation

•  Experience using innovative teaching methods which might include team-based learning, “flipped classroom”, problem-based learning, distance learning, interactive large group presentation, audience response systems, curriculum delivery systems (e.g., Moodle), and proficiency in exam item writing (in the style of the United States Medical Licensing Exam or the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination 

Experience:

• Prior teaching experience in academic setting

• Possess exceptional credentials in scholarly, professional, and/or individual achievement

• Extensive professional experience with an exemplary record for achievement

Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Strong organization, interpersonal, communication, presentation, and planning skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a team and flexibility to work with others in a variety of circumstances; ability to problem solve by analyzing issues and creating action plans; ability to manage projects and people and prioritize and self-direct work flow; ability to work with and manage different computer programs and databases.
