Job Summary: 

The Associate Coordinator (AC) is responsible for ensuring individuals served have access to meaningful in-house and community-based activities. The AC is an active member of a team providing supported services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities following the framework outlined in organizational policies and procedures. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • May oversee the work of Direct Support Professionals to plan and coordinate care of individuals served. 
  • May provide constructive feedback regarding Direct Support Professionals’ performance. 
  • May assist with scheduling. 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Provide individualized, direct care support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to maintain independent living while monitoring health and safety. 
  • Advocate for and promote individual choice and involvement for individuals served. 
  • Communicate with others in a prompt and professional manner. 
  • Attend training and professional development sessions as requested. 
  • Assist with individuals’ transportation and appointments. 
  • Administer medication and first aid. 
  • Complete required service documentation. 
  • Act as the first point of contact for Direct Support Professionals. 
  • Communicate with team members, families, case managers, and supervisors to provide updates on individuals served. 
  • Perform other duties as requested. 

Requirements

 

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate. 
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn organizational technology and software systems. 
  • Ensure the confidentiality of individuals served, employees, and organizational information.  
  • Attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of people. 
  • Respond to stressful situations in a calm and professional manner, reflecting a positive image of the organization in the community.  
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule. 
  • Able to work cooperatively with a diverse group of people. 
  • Demonstrate a positive, solution-oriented approach. 
  • Adhere to established safety protocols. 
  • Meet organizational insurability standards and have a valid Iowa driver’s license. 
  • Willingness and ability to accept, consider, and respond to feedback. 

Education and Experience: 

  • High school graduate of GED, with post-secondary education preferred. 
  • At least one year of prior experience working with IDD population is preferred. 

Physical Requirements:  

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds with or without assistance. 
  • Must be able to access all areas of assigned work locations.
