United Way of Greater Cleveland is a “Flexible First” organization. “Flexible First” means that we embrace a hybrid model that allows employees to work both remotely and at our existing office. Employees will regularly work at our existing office for approximately 10 to 80 percent of their time each month based on

business/operational

needs, and the rest of the time they may work from a remote physical location of their choice within a reasonable commuting distance from the office which must be identified to the organization in advance. Human Resources and Hiring Manager will set expectations on the employee’s preferred time in office with consideration to

business/operational

needs. UWGC has not defined a reasonable distance and expects employees will use judgment in determining this for themselves and understand the implications re: time commitment and cost of daily commute.

Purpose of Position:
This position provides leadership and strategy to identify, cultivate, engage, solicit, and steward individual donors for United Way of Greater Cleveland’s community-wide direct giving campaign, events, and impact work. The Associate Director, Community Philanthropy is responsible for managing individual donors to increase giving and loyalty to United Way.

The Associate Director provides strategy, oversight, and relationship management for the Humanitarian Society ($1,0000-$9,999 donors), as well as donor recapture, and paper and electronic direct mail campaigns for UWGC. The Associate Director will represent United Way at key events to identify and create opportunities for collaborations, sponsorships, and partnerships.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions/Key Accountabilities:

Campaigns and Fundraising
Designs and initiates strategic plans to grow the community campaign through overseeing content, design and production of direct mail materials and e-communications.
Works in collaboration with Marketing to help craft the message and case for support for direct mail campaign and associated e- communications.
Helps with prospect research for potential and current donors.
Create, prioritize, and execute a strategy to develop a growing community giving campaign detailing goals, objectives and standards and aligning with goals and mission of United Way.
Direct implementation and oversee identification, cultivation, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals community donors giving below $10,000 annually.
Oversee and work with principal giving, corporate philanthropy, and marketing team to grow and develop the Humanitarian Society.
Maintain accurate records and databases to track and analyze accounts, campaigns, and fundraising efforts to measure success and develop strategies for future improvements.
Work closely with Community Investment staff to identify and fundraise for marketable impact areas.
Create and implement strategies to recapture lapsed workplace donors.
Lead Giving Tuesday, year-end appeal, and other electronic giving initiatives.
Volunteer Management

Assist with management of Humanitarian Society volunteer chairs.

Required Education and Experience:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
5 years of development, marketing, sales, fundraising including prospect solicitation and account management, or the equivalent experience is required.
Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA):

Demonstrated and insightful experience with direct mail and online giving campaigns.
High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites, CRM, and donor databases.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills.
Analytical and design thinking/creative problem solving.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Proactive, flexible and team player.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently as well as in a team.
Empathy, creativity, thoughtfulness, and energy.

Working conditions are normal for an office environment which includes but not limited to the following:
Some local travel/occasional overnight travel.
Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required.
Occasionally required to stand’ walk; sit; use hands to fingers; hand or feel objects; tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
Employees may need to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
