Job Description - Associate Director - Employment Compliance and Advocacy

We’re seeking candidates with substantial experience directing multi‑jurisdictional compliance programs and projects and advocating the company’s position in agency processes. This non-attorney role on our Labor and Employment (L&E) Legal Team offers the chance to apply your expertise in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. We can't wait to meet you!

What we're looking for:

This position will design, implement, and manage required employment-related compliance programs and filings and coordinate company responses to agency requests, including EEOC position statements. They should possess strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated project management abilities, and expertise in building cross-functional partnerships.

What you'll do:

  • Develop, enhance, and lead state and federal employment compliance programs, including preparation of affirmative action plans, EEO-1 reporting, and state pay data reporting.

  • Design and lead global employment projects such as standardizing investigation protocols or implementing contingent staffing programs across regions.

  • Direct internal fact-finding for state and federal employment-related agency audits and investigations.

  • Conduct legal analyses and compose persuasive position statements in response to administrative charges of discrimination, retaliation, harassment, and related allegations.

  • Create and maintain internal reports pertaining to employment programs and administrative charges.

  • Monitor trends, best practices, and changes in relevant laws and regulations to maintain subject matter expertise.

  • Partner with legal operations to evaluate and implement technology solutions that improve efficiency.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in HR, legal, or compliance roles managing employment compliance programs (AAPs, EEO-1, pay equity reporting, or similar).

  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to

    F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, J-1, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, H-1B1, or L-1.

Preferred Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience drafting position statements in response to EEOC/state agency charges.

  • Experience leading cross‑jurisdictional, cross‑functional projects that translate legal requirements into practical, scalable business operations.

  • Investigation experience including planning, document requests, and witness interviews

  • Strong understanding of federal and state employment laws and regulations, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, and FLSA.

  • Experience working with in-house and external counsel.

  • Demonstrated success independently planning and executing work to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proven ability to interpret complex data and legal information and convey it clearly and concisely.

Additional Information:

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

  • This position is eligible for remote work within the United States.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$127,500 - $204,600

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
