Job Description - Associate Director of College Counseling


Associate Director of College Counseling

The Associate Director of College Counseling will serve as a visible and vital member of the College Office in the Upper School. The Associate Director administers accurate and timely guidance to students and families while developing meaningful and authentic partnerships with members of the professional community, students, parents, and admission officers. This is an exempt 12-month position starting July 1, 2026. Ideally, the start date will be in the Spring of 2026 to allow for a period of transition. This position reports to the Director of College Counseling and must be “on-site” during the months that school is in session.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Assist with college research, list building, and essay review for assigned Class XI and XII students.
  • Advise students and families on course selection, standardized testing options, and the overall college application process.
  • Contribute to the development of curriculum and instruct sections of the College Counseling class for Class XI and XII students.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the college admissions and financial aid landscape.
  • Support the Director of College Counseling in coordinating college counseling programming and events.
  • Serve as a liaison with Interschool institutions and partner schools.
  • Collaborate with Upper School Class Deans on student programming and special events.
  • Assist with the administration of the PSAT for Class XI students each fall.
  • Collect, update, and analyze data and generate reports through MaiaLearning and College Kickstart 
  • Travel to colleges and universities during the summer and attend/present at local, regional, and national conferences.
  • Cultivate and sustain relationships with college admission professionals.
  • Perform additional projects and responsibilities as assigned to support the office's work.
  • Help chaperone school-sponsored trips and events as needed. 
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, helping to sustain a program that meets the needs and aspirations of the school’s diverse student body and families.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2-4 years as a college counselor or admission officer at a selective college admission office. Priority will be given to applicants with college counseling experience. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the college admission process and financial aid requirements, along with the initiative to study changing trends, analyze data, and present to various constituencies
  • The ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and remain flexible during a demanding fall and spring application cycle
  • Familiarity with college research and submission platforms, including but not limited to: MaiaLearning, College Kickstart, Slate, and Naviance. 
  • Strong analytical and informative writing skills, including the ability to craft individualized letters of recommendation and communications about the college search process and college counseling program to the school’s students and families
  • A high degree of patience, empathy, composure, trustworthiness, and decisiveness
  • A respect for confidentiality and a high degree of professionalism, stress tolerance, and the ability to manage conflicts
  • The ability to serve as a calming, logical, inspirational, and rational voice among students and parents as needed
  • A genuine commitment to the power and purpose of girls’ schools
  • A commitment to helping to share Nightingale-Bamford’s stories and strengths within the Schoolhouse and broader community

SALARY RANGE:

 In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is $130,000 - $160,000. When extending an offer, Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) the position's scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market and organizational considerations.
