Job Description - Associate Director of New Teacher Development

The Opportunity

You have an expertise and passion for coaching and supporting new teachers (both to the profession and to an organization). The Associate Director of New Teach Development, in collaboration with greater academic team, will set the vision for new teacher support and development priorities and processes. Additionally, in collaboration with the greater academic team, the AD of New Teacher Development will create enabling structures for effective instruction grounded in our regional philosophy and priorities.

Priority deadline for this application is June 18, 2025. The role is signing bonus eligible.

\nDesired Outcomes
  • 90% of first-year teachers are developing or proficient with the TPR Foundational Skills rubric criteria, as measured against monthly benchmarks.
  • Maintain “satisfactory” or “excellent” ratings on the indicators outlined in the seminar session feedback surveys and make data-driven adjustments to ensure formal learning session effectiveness. 
  • Achieve 95% site leader agreement (agree or strongly agree) on the effectiveness and clarity of the new teacher development supports, as measured by survey feedback collected each quarter, and use the results to make data-driven adjustments to better support site-based leaders in driving new teacher skills. 
  • Leverage monthly site visits to ensure first-year teachers master TPR Foundational Skills action steps through a clearly defined and dynamic plan for teacher development.
  • Provide differentiated support to identified schools to ensure equitable allocation of resources to serve our most vulnerable populations. 
Required knowledge, skills, and ability
  • In addition to the below role-specific competencies, all team members are expected to uphold, demonstrate, and practice KIPP SoCal values, standards of conduct, and anti-racism standards.
  • Data Analysis and Improvement. Analyzes and interprets both qualitative and quantitative data; uses data-driven insights to monitor outcomes, evaluate effectiveness, and make timely adjustments to ensure continuous improvement; communicates findings clearly to key stakeholders, ensuring informed decision-making and prompt action to address identified needs.
  • Innovative Program Development. Harnesses creativity and innovation to design and implement professional development programs; actively seeks and incorporates feedback from multiple stakeholders, engaging in a continuous quality improvement cycle that includes planning, progress updates, and reflective practices to enhance program quality and effectiveness.
  • Performance & Capacity Building. Coaches, mentors, and develops individuals, helping them build the skills and capabilities needed to meet goals; provides targeted feedback, identifies growth opportunities, and fosters a culture of continuous learning; empowers others to take ownership of their development, while ensuring they have the tools and support necessary to succeed.
  • Cross-Functional Teamwork. Engages effectively with other teams and departments to achieve goals; promotes open communication, leverages varied perspectives, and builds strong relationships to enhance collaboration and drive successful outcomes.
  • Project Management. Strategically plans, creates, and manages initiatives by developing comprehensive action plans, allocating resources effectively, tracking milestones, and seeking support/adjusting as needed to ensure timely and successful completion.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years teaching in K-12 public education
  • Experience coaching teachers directly; scale is important; not just 1 or 2
  • Experience coaching and developing other instructional coaches
  • Experience managing and delivering professional development programs for teachers
  • Experience driving academic results across multiple classrooms or school sites through evidence-based teaching practices
  • Site-based administration experience desired
Physical Requirements
  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands:
  • Prolonged periods of working at a computer and sitting at a desk.
  • Prolonged periods of working on your feet at school sites (i.e. walkthroughs and observations)
  • Travel to the regional office and various school locations in Los Angeles and San Diego

Benefits & Compensation
  • KIPP SoCal Public Schools offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience in a similar position. The salary range for this position is $85,600 to $128,400 per year. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint of $107,000 depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budget allocated for this role.
